Pours a somewhat syruppy dark brown with a thin slightly off-white head. Aroma of rich malts, some vanilla, fruits. Sweet. flavor caramel, roasted malts, some fruit. Almost like a barleywine. Alcohol is definitely present, but not detracting from the overall expereince. dsm (109), Baltimore, Maryland, USA

I didn’t like this one, and I am surprised to see it rated so highly. The taste is straight alcohol - very poorly masked. There is also dark fruit and raisins. polomagnifico (534), Saginaw, Michigan, USA
| 4.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 10/10 | 5/5 | 19/20 | Jan 1, 2008 On tap. Aroma is intense caramel, licorice, candy, and roast malts. WOW!! Deep red hue with a tan head that left great lace. Flavor is just amazing. Caramel, candy, a little hops, and roasted malts. Sweet and sticky but well balanced with just the right amount of bitterness. Full bodied with a medium finish. The best beer from Kuhnhenn IMHO. after4ever (2776), Brier, Washington, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Dec 29, 2007 12-oz. Thanks, Boboski! Pours a grainy and nearly opaque muddy dark brown. Headless. Lacess. Looks carbless. Tastes carbless. Is carbless. Is not even that old yet, but rumor has it this beer *actually* shows better in its youth, no matter what the brewers say. Humongous soft caramel nose (yes, humongous *and* soft, just get one if you think I’m imagining things). They certainly come by caramelization the old fashioned way if they’re boiling this huge beast as long as the word on the street says they’re boiling it. Lots of raisins and plums and even a bit of port on the nose as well. Is this not actually a barleywine? Doesn’t really matter. Body’s actually very manageable, not sticky or oily or heavy at all, though it is in fact very big and thick and chewy. Remember the caramel, raisins, plums, and port? Yeah, they’re back for the mid-palate. Herbal, slightly toasty/biscuity hop notes emerge near the end (no, I have no idea why I think toast and biscuit are emerging as a hop note, maybe I *am* high after all. So there). I can’t say that this completely blows away even some of the commonly available huge beers in or near this style, but it certainly does take its place alongside them. If I could get this stuff, I would definitely be drinking it all the time. douglas88 (1627), Salt Lake City, Utah, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Dec 29, 2007 Updated: Aug 9, 2009Batch 3 from footbalm’s mighty cellar. Pours a deep red/brown with a good beige head. The aroma was amazing; deep fruity flavors mixed with burnt leaves, coffee and vanilla. The taste is also amazing; a nice rich mix of dark fruit and earthy/wood aspects. The malt really has aged well and is great. The is no reason why this is so smooth and easy to drink-11% ABV-really? Wow! Re-rate: bottle thanks to smokepot, 2008- perhaps batch four? A huge beige head, loads of herbal and medicinal aromas- like some kind of ancient potion. Sugary and sweet flavors, alcohol, roasted chocolates, nutty flavors, a lot. Very nice and truly a unique beer. yjb (110), Bloomington, Indiana, USA

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Dec 23, 2007 Pours out a muddy mohogany with a ruby hue. Big creamy head that dies quick to a thin layer with full sheets of lace throughout. Smell is very sweet and creamy. Dried dark fruit, plumb, fig, cherry, some raspberry, toffee and caramel. Taste starts a little syrupy with the fruits showing then the caramel and toffee shine through then take over the palate. Finishes a little dry. Creamy, thick and smooth as silk in the mouth. A definite sipper with its ABV that serves as a treat but no more than one per sitting. Definitely worth seeking out Magjayran (1379), Durham, North Carolina, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Dec 14, 2007 Pours a deep brown color with ruby highlights along the edge of the glass when held to the light. Wonderful toffee and caramel aromas with hints of vanilla. Nice roasted malt flavor along with more caramel and vanilla flavors and a slight brandylike quality in the way the alcohol warms. Super awesome stuff.
