Commercial Description:
Deep ruby red ale. Extreme malty/caramel flavor; sweet up front, finishing with hop bitterness and aroma. Very complex beer. We recommend at least four more months of age. But it is a delight to drink now.
Batch 1 - brewed late 2003, draught only.
Batch 2 - brewed 8/1/2004
Batch 3 - brewed 2/16/2005
Batch 4 - brewed end of Dec. 2005 (part of this batch was bourbon-aged)

On tap at the Blind Tiger at their Kuhnhenn event. Pours a clear ruby brown with a thin tanned beige head. Caramel, little molasses. Tons of sweetness. Molasses, light honey. Really sweet. A little tough to drink. Finishes with even more sweetness. I wasn’t impressed.

12 oz. bottle - 2007 vintage; dark brown with rosy highlights and thin tan head; musky, rich, sugary and quite dank aromas; thick, almost chewy texture; sugary sweet and lots of citrus in the finish; very nice overall but a little dampened by high expectations

On tap at Blind Tiger. The aroma was ripened fruits, chocolate, toffee. The appearance was a nice purple/red/brown, small off-white head. The flavor was amazing, if only a little too sweet. The flavor was fruit, booze, caramel malts, bread. The finish had a mild hop bittering, the mouthfeel was medium/thick, silky. Very nice beer overall. I think a little aging would improve this beer even more.

2008 bottle from Secret Santa, thanks! 11,8 % ABV. Dark brown color, a big head slowly builds up. Malt, cane sugar, figs and licorice in the aroma. Malty sweet, sugary flavor (cane sugar), hiding the alcohol somewhat. Dried figs, mango, licorice, cinnamon. Citrusfruit even. Interesting old ale wit the massive sweetness hiding the complexity. Sticky mouthfeel.

12 oz bottle thanks to andrew for sharing. Pours a dark amber with a creamy beige head. Oxidized dark fruits, candied, and slightly sour. Cherries, alcohol, dark fruits that are rich, oaky, sweet and boozy. Finish hot from the alcohol and sweet from the malts. The alcohol and dark fruit flavors linger. Solid beer.

12oz. Bottle (2008): Aroma of dark ripe fruits, cocoa, light hops, wood, light caramel, slight peat, and a hint of tobacco. Poured very deep amber/brown in color with a huge, foamy, fluffy, creamy, beige head that lasted throughout and became more dense over time. Unclear. Very sparkling. Complex flavor is heavily sweet. Tastes of dark ripe fruits, tobacco, honey, caramel, slight peat, slight cocoa, brown sugar, and a hint of hops. Medium body. Thinish, oily, slick texture finishes lightly dry. Soft carbonation. Sweet, dark ripe fruit, caramel, tobacco, finish is lightly dry and lingers for a long time. 11.8%ABV is totally hidden.
