Commercial Description:
Deep ruby red ale. Extreme malty/caramel flavor; sweet up front, finishing with hop bitterness and aroma. Very complex beer. We recommend at least four more months of age. But it is a delight to drink now.
Batch 1 - brewed late 2003, draught only.
Batch 2 - brewed 8/1/2004
Batch 3 - brewed 2/16/2005
Batch 4 - brewed end of Dec. 2005 (part of this batch was bourbon-aged)

Upon its release the beer sets in the glass a beclouded ruby red with a personable creamy light tan head that slowly evaporates leaving an admirable sheet of lace. Nose has a bit of muskiness with sweet malt, hints of caramel, delectable this nose, sweet at the start, grain profile perfect and the top middling in its feel. Finish has a determined acidity, the hops spicy and enjoyable, the after taste dry, with a nice bit of tummy warming, a total hit with me, and a must try.

Brewed 2/16/05. Dark brown with tan head and incredible lacing. A wide spread experience, from the heavy malt aroma to the smooth flavor of malt, spices and a touch of resin in the after taste. Really easy to sip and the warm glow spreads throughout the body.

Brewed Feb ’05. Pours dark mahagony with a small off-white head. The aroma is vinous, cherries, caramel and toffee. The flavor is moderately sweet, bitter pine, lots of caramel and plums. The mouthfeel is very soft and smooth with low carbonation and a warm, bitter finish.

Bottle, from trade with Nejhleader, I think. Brewed 2/16/03. Great nose, sweet. Fruity, raspberry, raisin/date/fig, caramel. Got better as it warmed. Clean orangy dark brown color, small head faded to a ring, no lace. Sweet bitter flavor, like aroma with more caramel and some chocolate. Still very fruity though. Medium body, oily viscous mouthfeel, bitterdry finish. Very nice. Enjoyed the opening up as it warmed

12 oz bottle via trade with Pailhead. Pours a murky reddish brown with a tan head. Nose is rich caramel malt, brown sugar, floral hops. NIce, thick, slightly satin body. Flavor is big brown sugar, molasses. A light nuttiness is noted. Finish is blunted floral bitter, the nut flavors really develop after everything else leaves. Beautiful! Thanks Kevin!

Bottle thanks to jtw: Deep amber color, almost no head. Aroma was rich caramel, a bit of spice, as well as floral hops. Flavor had a little dark fruit, mollassas. Alcohol was well hidden, medium bodied beer. Good stuff.

Dark maple syrup and acajou wood, with a thin moka head. Smooth licorice and molasses with good hops, floral and raisin notes. In mouth, a smooth rich coffee and sweet vanilla in mouth, with warming alcohol, licorice, rich and smooth. Mondial 2006.
