Commercial Description:
Deep ruby red ale. Extreme malty/caramel flavor; sweet up front, finishing with hop bitterness and aroma. Very complex beer. We recommend at least four more months of age. But it is a delight to drink now.
Batch 1 - brewed late 2003, draught only.
Batch 2 - brewed 8/1/2004
Batch 3 - brewed 2/16/2005
Batch 4 - brewed end of Dec. 2005 (part of this batch was bourbon-aged)

Bottle (2006 on bottle) with thanks to alexsdad. Pours a dingy brown with a very minimal head... just a few bubbles huddled against the side of the glass now. Aromas are sweet, sticky and thick. Brown sugar, dates and white grape juice. Flavor is similar, but has a couple of edges to it that I could live without. There surely is a lot of sugary sweetness, but it is sandwiched between a bourbony burn and a wine barrel like funk. Too much odd fruit and alcohol for me to groove on this.

Bottle graciously shared by ajm. Pours a dark port color with a faint oatmeal head. Smells incredible - very reminiscent of BCS. Loaded with the flavors of wet oak, bourbon, raisin, dates, vanilla, grape cough syrup, and mild coffee. A bit thin in consistency, but cavernous in taste. The best beer I’ve had from Kuhnhenn so far..

Pantanap is forever on my good side for his gracious, un-called for provision of this beautiful, heavenly beer. Kan, I owe you. Just name it. 2006 bottle. Aroma was pissed off after three years in the bottle and wanted to burst out and fill my room - and did so. Sweet but uncloying fig, RAISIN, brown apple, brown sugar. Flavor is all of those things (heavy raisin again - more like overripe grape) and gives traces of bourbon barrel, coco/vanille, sweet meat glaze like a maple ham or bacon. After a few minutes, flavor evolves (like KRE) into a more earthy, distinctly coffee flavor, not unlike the coffee in Weasel, but still balanced by the fruity old caramel nonsense up top. A flabbergasting achievement in beer, and this isn’t even the bourbon version. Holy God.

courtesy of tampabrew. 2007 bottle pours dark brown, beige head, nice golden lacing. Aroma had lots of malts, caramel with lots of sweet sugar notes, faint chocolate. Taste, grassy hops, lots of sweet sugar, caramel, malts, some nutty chocolate. Strong alcohol warming presence. This is a fine tasty brew.

Bottle from Glouglouburp. Thanks Dany!!! Honey amber colour with a huge white head. Tastes of sweet malt, earthy wood tones, ginsing, some dark fruits. A little too sweet, but excellent none the less.

On tap at Kuhnhenn. Pours a deep amber with a creamy off-white head. Aroma of dried fruit, caramel, and alcohol. Taste is very similar with a slight sweetness and roasted malt for balance. Mouthfeel is dry and malty. Looking forward to a vertical on this one!

Bottle shared by Hophead22. Pours a hazy dark red with a creamy tan head. Aroma is strong and sweet with molasses, raisins, toffee and caramel. Flavor is mostly the same, lots of toffee and dark fruits, a hint of vanilla, thick, creamy and sweet but not cloying. A little bit dusty and old tasting, but that’s good as this IS an Old Ale. A very big, malty, tasty beer. I want more!
