Not my favorite to drink, but a very well-crafted and interesting brew. Pinkish color with little carbonation. Tastes of raspberry, chocolate, and caramel. A minty aftertaste. Very thin, you could almost believe this was a wine. bfeldmann (1042), Wilmington, Delaware, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Feb 3, 2009 Wow thanks eagle for scoring this one. Poured a redish brown with zero head and tons of sedimentation. Aroma was of chocolate and a tons of raspberries. Flavor was perfect, tart but not crazy raspberries with a well balanced chocolate/caramel, toasted malts. Solid beer.

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Feb 2, 2009 Updated: Oct 12, 2009I really have no idea how this beer is rated as high as it is. This stuff is definitely good, but nowhere near one of the top beers in the world like people say it is. First of all, this definitely blurs the beer/wine barrier. I think you could stick this in place of a raspberry wine and even Kenny Chesney couldn’t tell you the difference.
This was served in a wine glass and looked almost exactly like a red wine. Little to no head. Nice sweet aroma of raspberries and a little bit of malt. Sweet raspberry flavor with hints of chocolate. Smooth mouthfeel. I do like the raspberry flavor and the alcohol fits in well along with some other interesting flavors. It’s good, just not THAT good.
Re-rate after 2007 vintage sampled at GABF 2009. This is actually very solid! No New Glarus fruit beers, but it’s nice and complex with raspberry, chocolate, caramel, and spices. Also looks great, brilliant dark reddish-brown color, and the palate is incredibly smooth. bierkoning (6103), La Tropica, Netherlands
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Feb 2, 2009 2007 small bottle from Schroppfy, thanks! Very dark pink color. Raspberry icecream and caramel in the aroma. Full bodied. Very sweet, caramelly but also slightly tart and alcoholic. Some earthy hops in the background. Mint in the aftertaste. Way off the beaten track. In my opinion not a top 50 beer, but indeed a very interesting beer. aplusbreaks (330), , Colorado, USA

Aromas of raspberries, molasses, caramel, and some chocolate. Flavors are very similar, sweet raspberries up front, followed by caramel, chocolate. Also a touch of booze, not to much though, it is pretty well hidden. Thanks again Jake. slimchill (783), Austin, Texas, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Jan 20, 2009 2007 Bottle. Mild aroma of raspberry and caramel, Murky reddish-brown with little carbonation or foam. Flavor is intense and impressive, with sweet chocolate, cherry, raspberry, and caramel notes. Slightly unbalanced, but the sweetness never becomes overpowering or cloying and is possibly just indicative of the style. Alcohol is warming but hardly present. On the palate this beer is thick, chewy, and yet still extremely smooth. Lingering notes of raspberries, slightly more tart than in the initial sip. oreogobbler (217), Austin, Texas, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jan 20, 2009 Sweet raspberry notes. Very wine like but not to dry, sweet even. Not very pretty. Cola colored with a thin swirly head. Sweet and candy like up front, the flows into a sourish raspberry flavor, then mellows into a robust finish. The palate is well balanced and interesting. It moves so nicely over the palate. Clean and smooth. jgb9348 (2515), Arlington (Pentagon City), Virginia, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 2/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jan 19, 2009 2004 Bottle:
Deep brown coloured body with almost no head and a very faint light brown head. No bubbles, and nothing else showing that this beer is living - a bit bland in the appearance. Striking aroma of chocolate, caramel, figs, prunes, raisins and of course - raspberries. Full-bodied; Strong acidic and fruity taste up front of cherries and tart raspberries fading fast to chocolate and deep malt. Aftertaste shows a lot of complexity with the pit fruits really rolling through, caramel and toffee finishing up along with the chocolate and bittering spices and nuts. Overall, a complex but perhaps a bit overpowering beer. I enjoyed it, but I’m glad this was only a double-split (187 mL) bottle - too bad it was also $9! I sampled this bottle purchased in the summer of 2005 at Merchant’s in Dearborn, Michigan on the day before the Inauguration of the 44th President of the USA - at home in Washington.
