Commercial Description:
Real raspberries abound in this chocolate caramel after dinner treat. Aged for a smooth texture and drinkability. This lager beer will handle additional age very well.

2007 bottle - thanks to The Beer Cellar for sharing!!! simply outstanding. Huge caramel aroma with some raspberry as well. Pours a dark red with little to no head. Nice full strong body. Really soft over the palate - the raspberry is most noticeable on the front, while the chocolate caramel dominates the mouth. Smooth finish with a touch of alcohol. Really, this beer is outstanding and I feel lucky to have tried it. Thanks Matt!

2007 bottle, many thanks to Linus_Stick! Pours hazy, dark red-amber with touches a very small off-white head. The aroma is initially malt sweetness, but raspberries soon dominate. Other contributions include chocolate, faint similarities to apple cider, and alcohol. The flavor is quite sweet, but it remains refreshing thanks to raspberry sour coming with warmth. There is also caramel and a little chocolate with minor alcohol in the background. Though full bodied and dense, the palate is smooth and clean. So while KRE is not the most complex beer, damn is it tasty.

Not so bueno. Syrupy, malty, fruity, and overly sweet, but not great on my palate. Undercarbonated reddish brown pour. Aroma of berries and dark malts. Strawberry jam flavors with a strong bock backbone. It is smooth, but the lack of carbonation and heavy mouthfeel just didn’t do it for me. It is a bit cloying like a port, and should be consumed in a similar fashion.

Wow - thanks Silphium! Pours hazy deep burnt orange with minimal latte head. Aroma of fresh raspberry and dark chocolate, like a raspberry soufle. Taste of a fine flourless chocolate cake with raspberry coulis - serious it’s that good. The alcohol complements and distributes the flavor evenly through the mouth. This is a fine, rare beer, nearly perfect in concept and execution.

sampled with the phoenix crew. 2007 bottles via psprings and bgburdman9. thanks guys! pours a very rich looking hazy amber with a minimal beige head. smells like raspberry cheesecake with a graham cracker crust.... toffee, cream, malt, tart raspberry, a touch of alcohol, dry and grainy. strangely, the flavor doesn’t offer a lot of fruitiness?... chocolate malt powder, cream, vanilla, muted berry and just a hint of booze... a whole lot like raspberry cheesecake. full body. very rich mouth feel but it gets a bit monotonous... needs more dog.

7-5-08 bottles thanks to miketd and Crizay
Pour is dark thick reddish brown with a decent beige ivory head. Smell is fresh raspberries up front and then trails off to leave you with a nice welcoming and warms godiva dark chocolate covered raspberry smell. It is so similar to chocolate covered raspberries - I can barely believe it. Finish is such big chocolate and wonderful and is such a nice pleasant surprise to the mouth. A touch of warm, nearly melting, chocolate dipped coating just remains coated on the tongue for quite a while after drinking. No alcohol is present in the flavor, although it is a touch "warm". Not thin, nor syrupy but nice and smooth and really seems like it is melted chocolate. I love this beer!

Vintage 2004 Pours absolutely still, with a mahogany body and crimson hues. Perfectly clear, as I managed to catch the dregs. Aromatics are pungent, fruity, and earthy. Loads of Port essense, vanilla, and raspberries. A hint of oak pulls through the boozy character. Tannic and concentrated in nature, with a balsamic nod. The vanilla is really a nice touch. Intense and reminiscent of Earthmonk and Cuvee de Tomme. Medium bodied, but chewy and tacky. Slicky from the lack of carbonation and high gravity. Booze-laden raspberry juice starts the pallet, along with Madiera wine and cherry pits. A tartness steps forward, and intense red fruits follow. Hints of cranberry, red Zinfindel, and earthy cedar linger. Finishes with concentrated red fruits, port, bourbony fusels, and a light tartness. Quite different from what I was expecting. The brew is very dry, not sweet, and certainly not overwhelmed with Raspberries. Plenty of intense red fruits, vineosity, and tartness
