Commercial Description:
This amber-golden colored beer is made with Simcoe hops, Belgian yeast and candy sugar. It exhibits a medium bitterness and finishes with the flavors of coriander and orange peel. Our beer has many aspects that make it truly unique. Aromas of banana, bubble gum, orange and spices are subtly noticed while the strong American hop character fives it a well balanced finish. 10.0% A.B.V.

growler at DLD. pours hazy golden with white head. nose is loaded with simcoe hops, grassy, orange, and bubblegum. flavor is a bit over the top sweet, candy sugar, spicy yeast, and hoppy. a decent beer but not what i’d go for again at 9 in the morning.

10oz draft at the brewery: Glowing orange pour with a creamy, thick head. The nose is all Simcoe to me, apricot, mango and lots of sweet orange. The body is sweet and rich with a plethora of Belgian-esque attributes. The Simcoe takes the place of a orange peel addition, adding a uniquely American aspect to a solid Belgian-style beer. The results are great - crisp and fresh tasting, the hops play off the wheat, banana and bubble gum adding a great complexity. Very easy to drink for a high ABV brew.

Bottle acquired via polomagnifico. As orange as the color on the label with a small off-white head. Nectarine, tangerine, and orange...although the citrus here provides its sweetness but not it’s bitterness. There isn’t a ton of tartness. Extremely surprised by the 10.5% ABV as it wasn’t extremely noticeable. Much too sweet to be something I’d want regularly.

On tap at Kuhnhenn, poured amber with frothy off-white head and good lacing. Aroma is moderately malty and hoppy, with some touches of pine, grapefruit, and yeast. Didn’t smell like a Belgian, had more hop and citrus bitterness. Flavor is moderately sweet and acidic. Medium bodied, with dry finish. All in all, is OK, but being a big Belgian fan, I was confused by the style.

12 oz bottle, via goryshkewych. Pours a cloudy orangish gold body with a one finger fizzy white head that faded to a thin film. Big catty Simcoe nose overlays a fruity Belgian inspired mix of mandarin oranges, coriander, and passion fruit. A touch of alcohol. Sweet tropical fruits dance among Belgian spices and citrus notes with a hearty dose of alcohol. Lots of yeast influence on the finish. This is almost like drinking an Orange Julius citrus concoction. Sweet at times but with lots of hoppiness. The alcohol is apparent in the flavor, but it’s really a side note to the spicing. Mouthfeel is full and chewy with nice soft fizzy carbonation that keeps this refreshing instead of cloying. Overall, this really is a unique beast, I can’t think of much any beer that this tastes like. Very very enjoyable. Among the best offerings from Kuhnhenn that I’ve had.

2008-05-30. Orange body with a small off-white head. Hoppy aroma is a touch muted, hints of grass, mild oranges. (7+) Similar sweet orangey hops in the flavour are dominant, subtle, but pleasant. Palate borders on light but is quite smooth. Found it to be on the mild side, not sure if a fresher sample might offer more oomph or not, but I enjoyed this for what it was. Bottle, Mondial, Montreal, 5T
