| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Nov 18, 2009 Pours a cloudy, rusty brown color with a small beige / tan ring. Nose was quite sweet and a little boozy with candied peaches and apricots being dominate. Flavor was also very sweet with lots of berry and tree fruits. The finish was very boozy and heavy on the palate. TheEpeeist (1469), Swarthmore, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Oct 8, 2009 12 oz bottle, 2007. Muddy brown with a thin haze. Nose is banana, raisin, caramel and cider. Full body with a tingle; reminds me of spiked egg nog in consistency. Taste is peach preserves, toffee and red licorice. Earthy bitter finish with yeast and alcohol. Close to cloying, at times hinting at cough syrup, but overall a tasty brew. probstk (1055), Nepean, Ontario, Canada
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Sep 9, 2009 12 fl oz bottle from Bieropholie, served at cellar temperature in a tulip glass. 2007 Ed.
App.: Clear deep copper with a small tan head.
Aroma: Hugely malty, massive amounts of raisins, dark dried fruits, molasses, caramel, treacle, toffee, anything else even remotely malt-like, some slightly brighter fruit notes, some berries, plenty of esters – mainly cotton candy, a little nutty, some citrus peel, slightly herbal, not that much alcohol, a little vanilla maybe
Palate: Medium-full body, quite syrupy, almost flat.
Flav.: A lot of pineapple candy and other tropical fruit esters, still incredibly malty, huge amounts of dark dried fruit, brown sugar, light nuttiness, tingling/numbing alcohol; quite sweet with enough bitterness to balance and a significant amount of alcohol.
I checked this out before opening the bottle. I saw Doppelbock. A failed to notice the ABV. I gotta work in the morning. I think I’ll put the rest in the fridge for later and will save the second bottle from January after skiing. JK (2961), Richfield, Minnesota, USA
| 2.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | May 24, 2009 Light brown. Bitter, grape skin flavor. Some yeast, which I don’t expect from the style. Also, some unpleasant alcohol flavor. Something is wrong here. shigadeyo (2263), Harrison, Ohio, USA

Well, I’m not overly surprised since (1) this is from Kuhnhenn and (2) this beer looks more like a barleywine since its extreemly deep amber color that is darker than honey is definitely intimidating! The aroma is sweet and even sticky and the flavor is thick, extremely MALTY, chewy, and S-W-E-E-T! Wow, this Winter Wonder "Lager" is damn tasty!
Sample from bottle at Dark Lord Day 2009. Rating #108 for this beer.
