Svesse (2597), Hässelby, Sweden Oct 28, 2009 (Bottle) Reddish brown colour with firm, creamy, beige head. Malty nose with notes of dried fruit, chocolate, toffee, liquorice and hints of alcohol (a bit like cherries in brandy). Malty taste with dried fruit, coffee, dark rye bread, chocolate, liquorice and a finish with a touch of spicy hops, toasty malt and warming alcohol. Full body, fairly sweet (but not as sweet as I expected). Smooth and rounded mouthfeel with an almost overwhelming malt character. Excellent balance. Lovely beer. Flavor: Mirrors the nose with notes of caramel, prune, plum, dried cherries, brown sugar, spice, and a decent bitterness. Sweet with warming alcohol.
Palate: Low carbonation with a rich mouthfeel and medium-long, sweet finish.
Overall: This is a great beer for those cold winter nights. Well done! mcdav2154 (289), Germany Oct 22, 2009 Poured in a snifter. Beautiful dark amber color with a small head that disappears rather quickly. No lacing. Smells of big malts, some caramel, and brown sugar. Taste was huge in malt, brown sugar, raisins, and maybe some darker cherries. Really a good brew that gets a lot better as it warms up. Great for this time of year when it’s getting cold outside and you’re looking to warm up with a beer that has a lot of depth. One of my new favorites. Swalden28 (1439), McKinney, Texas, USA Oct 16, 2009 Updated: Oct 20, 2009Bottle from Kegs & Barrels in Plano, TX. Pours a nice looking deep dark brown with red hues and tan head.
