Tastes the same, strong, alcoholic, malty, a bit like wood. Well balanced malty finish with notes of liquorice. Good beer! michaelvern (5), Ohio, USA does not count | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 15/20 | Sep 24, 2008 Pours dark red with a cream head. | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Sep 12, 2008 Rich and deep roasted caramel toffee nose, some hints of dark chocolate. Coffee brown with red hues, huge foamy head that settled into a dense pillow. Intensely malty syrupy sweet, noticeable but mellow bitterness, warming alcohol. Soft carbonation, rich full body with an oily mouth feel, long slow complex alcohol burning finish. A really nice beer, the alcohol completely balances the sweetness. grandridge (222), Port Clinton, Ohio, USA

Mouthfeel is medium to thick with little carbonation. Dark fruit dominates and finished bitter. robforbes (1085), Bremerton, Washington, USA

Flavor is similar to the aroma with some stronger phenol notes and just a slight bitterness on finish. Generally light to medium body with a much stronger nose than flavor.
