idbowman82 (62), Painesville, Ohio, USA May 9, 2008 No good. Looked promising with a very deep red and an off white head. Eisbocks should be strong, yes, but they shouldn’t necessarily taste like rubbing alcohol.
I see lots of other notes about fruits, caramel, molasses, etc...frankly, I couldn’t get past the apparent alcohol. KimJohansen (6645), Copenhagen V, Denmark May 8, 2008 Dark brown with large beige head. Sweet aroma with roasted malt, prunes and plums. Sweet flavor with notes of roasted malt, overripe fruits and caramel. Ends sweet. MIBRomeo (1962), Wisconsin, USA May 1, 2008 Deep brown color lt red hughes nice rocky off white head good lac. Sweet sugary aroma some light syrups touch of grains. Full well coated pal. Flavor is sweet brown sugar & syrup w/ a grain cut touch a little rough edge & a warm swallow. Good not great Skinnyviking (4142), Copenhagen, Denmark Apr 30, 2008 Bottle. High and long lasting off-white creamy head. Very dark red brown body. Weak and metallich barley malt aroma. Low carbonated caramel cocoa roasted malt flavor. Pretty sweet but with a long aftertaste. Alcohol well hidden. toddkrem (78), Las Vegas, Nevada, USA Apr 25, 2008 Smells and looks like a stout. Tastes sweet with a wine aftertaste. taste of plums and raisons. Good beer. Thin compared to a stout and no hops compared to an IPA. First Eisbach rated. Bottle from artusory. scraff (1920), Baltimore, Maryland, USA Apr 24, 2008 Dense brown, creamy off white head. Rich caramel coated plum and warm musty fig notes are well layered over softer aromas of cherry molasses and brown sugared grapes. Well balanced deep dark fruit flavors ride waves of warm toasted caramel from start to finish. Just a faint hint of hops shows up late, but this is all about the malt. Medium bodied with pillow soft carbonation. A great after dinner sipper in my opinion… JCB (1713), Durham, North Carolina, USA Apr 16, 2008 Best eisbock I’ve had (though I certainly haven’t had many). A nicely dark pour, with a gem-like glow in the middle, and a substantive head. Smells very much like a port, and even has some of the consistency thereof - figs, raisins, a touch of anise. But the sweet malts are balanced by that slight alkie burn that’s distinctive to this style, giving it a real sipper’s quality. Good stuff. gringo332 (236), Richardson, Texas, USA Mar 26, 2008 Updated: Mar 1, 2009Wonderful beer. Very sweet and dark. lear, deep ruby-amber coloured, mid-sized, slowly diminishing tanned head; distinctive fruitiness dried fruits, raisins) in the caramelly and toasted-malty nose, accompanied by illusions of molasses and shy hops; solid sweet flavour, full bodied, a bit sticky;
