plovmand (1590), Helsinge, Denmark Jan 24, 2008 Pours dark brown with fast disappearing brown head. Roasted malts and brown sugar in the aroma. Sweet malt, alcohol and barley in the flavor. Bungalo22 (326), Bridgeport, Connecticut, USA Jan 22, 2008 Quite the surprise but I guess it shouldn’t have been. A dark pour, with not such a big head. Smells like a fruit roast if that makes sense. A very full body with a nice long finish. Had it in bottle poured to stein. DWestrick (235), Ft Wayne, Indiana, USA Jan 22, 2008 Very interesting beer. Extremely unique taste and very potent! Neat story behind Eisbocks and how they are made. Recommend serving very chilled and drink slowly. Not a beer I would drink often but definitely an experience. Finn (1422), Tromsø, Norway Jan 16, 2008 On bottle in Fasslwirtschaft Riedenburg 21 Jun 07. Found it again! The last time I had it was in my pre-ratebeer period and I’ve been longing for it for years. Strong sweet malty aroma. Dark brown color. A complex caramellish flavor. Well rounded. A lasting, sweet roasted aftertaste with a pleasant sweet bitter and roasted aftertaste. A perfect stand-alone beer for dessert. Lowe1983 (1029), Fairborn, Ohio, USA Jan 14, 2008 Pours a dark copper color with a tan head. Aroma is of dark fruits, chocolate, brown sugar, and almost no alcohol. Flavor is sweet up front with the brown sugar, chocolate, and dark fruits. Finishes dry with some alcohol warming. Pretty good. jzzbassman (838), New Albany, Mississippi, USA Jan 10, 2008 Pours a molasses color with a small head, mostly a small ring of foam. Aroma is of leather and shaving cream. Flavor is very spirit-like, with notes of sherry and brandy. A bit fruity at time, with a big alcoholic burn. Strykzone (1459), Wood River, Illinois, USA Jan 4, 2008 Great looking bottle! Almost as dark as a porter with plenty of red highlights. The only foam is a light brown ring around the glass. Aroma is wonderful consisting of dark fruit and brown sugar. Flavor is just as delightful. It is amazingly fruity. Alcohol content is significant and comes through in the flavor as well as providing warmth on a cold winter night. A couple of negatives are a sour bitter aftertaste and a slightly thin feel. But this is an exceptional beer with a complex flavor. MrBunn (1521), Western, Pennsylvania, USA Dec 29, 2007 Bottle. It’s hard not to get a little excited about this... Pour is a leathery brown with a quickly fading head. Aromas are almost wine-like... fruit (red grape juice, black cherries, maybe some blackberries) and a bit of sugar. The alcohol that is present is my biggest hang up with the flavor. Other than that, it has almost a wine/brandy like flavor with a touch of a brownish malt presence. I thought this would be a little more distinctive and intriguing... as is, it is good, but I’m wondering what happens if I forget about one in the basement for a while?
