Commercial Description:
The ice bock, also known as "Bayrisch Gefrorns", owes its discovery to a coincidence. According to the chronicles of the Kulmbacher brewery, some time around 1900 an apprentice forgot on a cold winter day to carry two barrels of bock beer into the brewery cellar. The barrels stayed outside, were covered by ice and snow and weren’t discovered until the following spring. The barrels had burst and the apprentice was reprimanded. But the carelessness was a stroke of luck because under the thick ice coat, a bock beer extract remained, strong tasting and high in alcoholic content.
Even if the dark, tasty speciality is not produced in this spectacular way anymore, the chance that gave birth to this beer became a tradition. Today this beer rarity is brewed in a modern brewing and freezing process, but the incomparable taste is still the same and can always be enjoyed in winter months.

Bottle. Brown coloured with no head. Rich, sweet, toffee aroma. Oily feel, little carbonation, sweet malty caramel, sour fruit and salty finish.

bottle from BOM club... pours a deep dark brown with a thick head, which eventually disappears completely. slight aromas of coffee, sweet malts and alcohol. nice body full of flavor.... it is warming with dark fruits and molasses. the finish is enjoyable and wraps the beer up nicely. overall a very good beer that will be enjoyed again.

I think dyetube and I are in the same BOM club! This pours a hearty brown with an acceptable off white head and a nice cereal aroma. My initial impression from the pour was a fear that it might be too carbonated. It had a nice malty taste with trace hints of caramel. The finish was warm and smooth and left me wanting another sip! These are the kinds of beers I was hoping to discover and I will certainly be trying this again.

This beer was courtesy of my beer of the month club. It pours a deep brown/almost black with a medium tan head. The aromas are light chocolate and coffee with some Hawaiian flowers. The flavors are equally as interesting and good. Although I do get some plum in the flavor as well. it starts off lively has a little bite in the middle and then finishes quite dry. I really enjoyed this beer! Cheers!

BOTTLE: beautiful pour with nice thick beige head, dark brown color. Aroma is somewhat weak but pleasant and inviting. Palate is both very lively and creamy with a medium finish. Enjoyable somewhat sweet flavor is very nice.

Brown cloudy pour with tan head. Aroma of apples, brown sugar and chocolate. Taste of maple syrup, sugar and some faint alcohol. Nice finish, perfect for a winter evening sipping.

Beer club selection. Poured a rich, dark brown, almost opaque, with a tan head that dissipates rapidly. Aromas of chocolate, dark fruits and alcohol. The maltiness is evident in the taste, sweet and earthy, then the alcohol brings a warming effect. Thick syrups mouthfeel that seemed to coat everything from my lips to my stomach. Not too sure I could handle more than one - ok, two - of these because of the alcohol and the syrupy thickness. But one - ok, two - is a very nice drinking experience.

Intense and interesting. Packs a wallop and doesn’t try too hard to mask the alcohol. Yet fortunately it’s not an overly ’hot’ beer. Loads of fig, currant and concentrated berry flavors. Vinous on some sips but malty all the way. Hard for me to finish the glass though, a lightweight day for me. A specific beer for special situations. Willing to give it another go.
