Commercial Description:
The ice bock, also known as "Bayrisch Gefrorns", owes its discovery to a coincidence. According to the chronicles of the Kulmbacher brewery, some time around 1900 an apprentice forgot on a cold winter day to carry two barrels of bock beer into the brewery cellar. The barrels stayed outside, were covered by ice and snow and weren’t discovered until the following spring. The barrels had burst and the apprentice was reprimanded. But the carelessness was a stroke of luck because under the thick ice coat, a bock beer extract remained, strong tasting and high in alcoholic content.
Even if the dark, tasty speciality is not produced in this spectacular way anymore, the chance that gave birth to this beer became a tradition. Today this beer rarity is brewed in a modern brewing and freezing process, but the incomparable taste is still the same and can always be enjoyed in winter months.

Wow. This has quite the kick to it. Dark fruits, ala figs and berries, chocolate. Complex with an alcoholic finish that isnt offensive. Great beer.

Pours dark brown with fast disappearing brown head. Roasted malts and brown sugar in the aroma. Sweet malt, alcohol and barley in the flavor.

Quite the surprise but I guess it shouldn’t have been. A dark pour, with not such a big head. Smells like a fruit roast if that makes sense. A very full body with a nice long finish. Had it in bottle poured to stein.

Very interesting beer. Extremely unique taste and very potent! Neat story behind Eisbocks and how they are made. Recommend serving very chilled and drink slowly. Not a beer I would drink often but definitely an experience.

On bottle in Fasslwirtschaft Riedenburg 21 Jun 07. Found it again! The last time I had it was in my pre-ratebeer period and I’ve been longing for it for years. Strong sweet malty aroma. Dark brown color. A complex caramellish flavor. Well rounded. A lasting, sweet roasted aftertaste with a pleasant sweet bitter and roasted aftertaste. A perfect stand-alone beer for dessert.

Pours a dark copper color with a tan head. Aroma is of dark fruits, chocolate, brown sugar, and almost no alcohol. Flavor is sweet up front with the brown sugar, chocolate, and dark fruits. Finishes dry with some alcohol warming. Pretty good.

Pours a molasses color with a small head, mostly a small ring of foam. Aroma is of leather and shaving cream. Flavor is very spirit-like, with notes of sherry and brandy. A bit fruity at time, with a big alcoholic burn.
