Commercial Description:
The ice bock, also known as "Bayrisch Gefrorns", owes its discovery to a coincidence. According to the chronicles of the Kulmbacher brewery, some time around 1900 an apprentice forgot on a cold winter day to carry two barrels of bock beer into the brewery cellar. The barrels stayed outside, were covered by ice and snow and weren’t discovered until the following spring. The barrels had burst and the apprentice was reprimanded. But the carelessness was a stroke of luck because under the thick ice coat, a bock beer extract remained, strong tasting and high in alcoholic content.
Even if the dark, tasty speciality is not produced in this spectacular way anymore, the chance that gave birth to this beer became a tradition. Today this beer rarity is brewed in a modern brewing and freezing process, but the incomparable taste is still the same and can always be enjoyed in winter months.

Pours dark brown with medium tan head. The nose is that of dark fruit, sugars, and touches of chocolate. The taste is more chocolate that the aroma, but otherwise follows suit with the nose. Very tasty!

Bottled. Very dark brown colour with ruby highlights. Aroma is mild chocolate and a hint of alcohol. Flavour is more chocolate, some vanilla and molasses. Warming alcohol in the finish. Well done.

Marvelously dark and candied aroma of horehound, licorice, molasses, and even a fine cigar. Dark ruby brown with a thick brown head, good lacing. Medium to full bodied and moderately sweet. Horehound and currant flavor with much more of the former. Plum finish. The alcohol sneaks up on you without you knowing it, so pace yourself. Not a lot of balance, but an amazing niche beer. Outstanding representation of the style and probably a 5 for those who like this type of beer.

A very nice beer. Glad to know that I have several more bottles of the beer waiting for me. The last eisbock I had was a bit overwhelming so I wasn’t too sure what to expect from this one. Everything was in great form. An aroma chocolately raisins/plums, dark brown sugar, and black cherry ice cream. The taste is equally as sublime as the aroma with strong notes of molasses, vanilla, chocolate, cookie dough and dark fruits. Extremely easy to drink, which is dangerous at over 9% alcohol. Very nice beer.

33 cl. Deep mahogany with a huge and enduring creamy cap. Chocolate, raisins and molasses with a whiff of alcohol in the delicious nose. Flavor has all the same characteristics, plus some woody notes, toffee, corn and a slight dry-earth spiciness. Smooth medium-heavy body has some slight tingle on the end.

This beer pours a clear opaque brown and amber color. There is no head nor is there any laceing to it at all. It has a very sweet smell of maple sugar. As you drink it there is a ncie tangy bitterness initially, but as it warms up you start to get some hints of cherry and some nice sweet yet mildly bitter flavors that coat the sides of your mouth and last for a while. It is very thick and smooth as it slids down your throat.
