mgumby10 (1844), Jupiter, Florida, USA Jul 19, 2007 Pours a dark red maroon, almost glowing, with a small off brown head which hugs the sides of the glass. Smells of rich, sweet malts, alot of dark fruit, berries, grapes, and a little apple. The taste is very fruity, with a syrupy mouthfeel, rich malts, with a hint of some cinnamon too. The caramel is big in the finish, which turns into sweet fruit. Much is the same in the aftertaste. Killer brew. wetherel (1565), Encinitas, California, USA Jul 16, 2007 Bottle from Hi-time. Popped the cap and I get an immediate malt smell. Poured into glass generating a 1 finger head of creamy small bubble goodness, that quickly faded to a fine ring around the glass. Swirling the glass yields a thin veil of milk like lacing, nice. Dark color, like super concentrated tea. Lots of malt and dates in the aroma. Taste is sweet but finishes very dry and possibly a tiny bit sour with the medium notes of alchohol rising from the tongue to the nose. Much better than the EKU28 I bought by mistake. Good, but better with cheese I think. krysztofar (344), belleville, Illinois, USA Jul 14, 2007 11.2oz bottle. this big beer in a little bottle pours out so brown it looks black, but when held to light it reveals itself to be a beautiful ruby shade. a one inch foamy tan head rises and falls pretty quickly. big raisin and plum aroma a little bitter chocolate and some alcohol also appear as well as some spice. clove maybe? powerfull and intense flavor of roasted malt and caramel but with more of a banana and clove dynamic than chocolate and coffee like a regular dopplebock. big spicy hops control the back half with the high alcohol never really coming to play, hiding behind the massive flavor. excellent. Rune (2744), Tromsø, Norway Jul 13, 2007 330ml botlle shared with Finn. This one is supposed to be one of the best German beers. And the brew came partly up to my expectation. Almost black body with a deep rusty tint. Rim of foam around the surface of the body. Aromatic alcohol notes in aroma mixed with dark fruits. Vineous dessert beer with taste of figs, molasses and nuts. More gentle alcohol at the ending. Should be still greater in the wintertime (Fasslwirtschaft, Riedenburg 21.06.2007). mj (4971), Colorado, USA Jul 12, 2007 Yay, another eisbock. I don’t have many. Wonderful nose of this one, reminds me of dates, wood, plums, red grapes and some burnt, charred oak or cedar wood. Slightly boozy in the nose as well. Texture is moderately thick, slick and a bit sweet, full and thick. Tastes more of plums, pipe tobacco and wood, with a nice earthy, dark fruit alcohol presence. Great stuff. ksigty (107), Scottsdale, Arizona, USA Jul 9, 2007 Weak aroma for such a flavorful beer. The appearance is a deep red with a good amount of head. The flavor is fantastic! It starts of with a malty bite and mellows out with a vanilla and toffee finish. I really enjoyed this one! robertjm (399), El Cerrito, California, USA Jul 1, 2007 Pours nice head which fails pretty rapidly. EXTREMELY malty nose. Hazy dark chocolate brown color. (No sediment in bottle so not sure where the haze is coming from). Thick chewy moutfeel. Carmelization in flavor (or do I taste some oxidation?). Warming aftertaste in the back of the throat. If the legend is half true about how this came about, it’d be awesome. Doesn’t have the syrupy texture and aftertaste of EKU28! But then again, it doesn’t have the alcohol level and specific gravity either!! Sorry to keep comparing it, but I wonder if this is EKU28, jr.? Malty flavor opens up after warming for about five minutes out of my fridge. Don’t drink this "eis-cold" but only slightly chilled. Tranquillity (1165), Espoo, Finland Jun 28, 2007 Yeah! Beer field trip in Köln. Draught (lucky me) at the biermuseum. Coffee and chocolate in the aroma. Thich beige head, dark cola colour. The taste is extreme! Thick, oily, fluffy at the same time. Notes of malt and dark bread. Looooong finish.
