Jul 1, 2007 Pours nice head which fails pretty rapidly. EXTREMELY malty nose. Hazy dark chocolate brown color. (No sediment in bottle so not sure where the haze is coming from). Thick chewy moutfeel. Carmelization in flavor (or do I taste some oxidation?). Warming aftertaste in the back of the throat. If the legend is half true about how this came about, it’d be awesome. Doesn’t have the syrupy texture and aftertaste of EKU28! But then again, it doesn’t have the alcohol level and specific gravity either!! Sorry to keep comparing it, but I wonder if this is EKU28, jr.? Malty flavor opens up after warming for about five minutes out of my fridge. Don’t drink this "eis-cold" but only slightly chilled.

Jun 28, 2007 Yeah! Beer field trip in Köln. Draught (lucky me) at the biermuseum. Coffee and chocolate in the aroma. Thich beige head, dark cola colour. The taste is extreme! Thick, oily, fluffy at the same time. Notes of malt and dark bread. Looooong finish.

Jun 25, 2007 Updated: Aug 20, 2007Really thought this was an excellent beer. A thick flavor, without any straininess of some many bocks. Flavor was very sweet and tasty. Just great.
Had one from 1996. malt malt malt malt malt, but in a great way Scored it 4.4. More coating and just malty.

Jun 19, 2007 Bottle. Pours a deep garnet color with an ivory wisp. Sweet malt aroma with toffee, caramel and some dark fruits. Big and sweet with sharp fruit flavors; dark fruits but also melons and some apricot. Rich chocolate and caramel flavors- man this would be tasty reduced down and poured over ice cream but to do so would be sacrilege. Thick and lingering aftertaste.

Jun 19, 2007 clear dark mahogany brown, minimal beige head. Aroma of ripe fruit, lots of malt, and some alcohol. Flavour is very malty, and loaded with ripe fruit, mostly figs, and plums, with an abundance of caramel flavour. Wow, very nice stuff, smooth, and not over powering.

Jun 17, 2007 Bottle. Dark mahogony beer with a nice tan head. Big dark carmalized malt aroma with a bit of fruitinerss. Nice caramelized malt flavor with some brown sugar and maple sugar. Alchol well hidden. Caramel malt lingers. Well but together, no off flavors and everything melds nicely.

Jun 7, 2007 Appearance: Pours out a dark brown-dark red color marked by a ring of very fine, off-white froth.
Smell: Oh, yes! A splendid, sweet aroma of plums, caramel, port wine, and molasses.
Taste: Astoundingly sweet! Such sweetness. I just felt a reflexive shot of adrenaline shoot through my beer-infested veins.

Alright. Whew. A great, seemingly endless depth of rich maltiness with intense flavors of caramel, brown sugar, maple syrup, and dark fruits. There’s a slight nuttiness present, as is an ever so faint hop bitterness. The finish is a bit of a contradiction, as the acute flavors stay on the tongue for several minutes at a time.
Mouthfeel: Full-bodied. A touch of soda-like carbonation keeps this beer from being too syrupy. Still... it’s quite silky. Almost sensual.
Any thicker, and this beer would go great on a batch of pancakes!
Drinkability: Just the one, thank you. Whew.

Jun 4, 2007 This was another beer I tried at "The Toad", a little pub in Rochester, NY. Wow, and let me say wow again. It poured a beautiful dark brown with a cream-colored head. The smell and taste was reminiscent of raisin-bread for me, but at 9.2% ABV there was just a bit of an alcohol taste in the after-taste. Still, a great beer.
