Commercial Description:
The ice bock, also known as "Bayrisch Gefrorns", owes its discovery to a coincidence. According to the chronicles of the Kulmbacher brewery, some time around 1900 an apprentice forgot on a cold winter day to carry two barrels of bock beer into the brewery cellar. The barrels stayed outside, were covered by ice and snow and weren’t discovered until the following spring. The barrels had burst and the apprentice was reprimanded. But the carelessness was a stroke of luck because under the thick ice coat, a bock beer extract remained, strong tasting and high in alcoholic content.
Even if the dark, tasty speciality is not produced in this spectacular way anymore, the chance that gave birth to this beer became a tradition. Today this beer rarity is brewed in a modern brewing and freezing process, but the incomparable taste is still the same and can always be enjoyed in winter months.

Very dark brown, almost black with a thin white head. Aroma is malty, but minimal. Taste is thin sweet and roasty with caramel and honey tastes. No real alcohol apparent in the taste, but it was rather sweet. $4.75/10oz

Bottle: Pours a very deep brown with ruby tints and a fading tan head. The aroma is loaded with sweet maltyness. Maple and brown sugar dominate. Slick mouthfeel, with a nice alcohol warmth. Dense maltyness gives off chocolate, brown sugar, light maple notes, and a roasty, slightly nutty (walnut?) finish with lots of smooth alcohol warmth. A solid malty warmer.

12 oz bottle from West LakeView Liquors. Clear ruby amber color with a tall beige head. Light aroma of malt and carmel. Malty sweet flavors brown sugar, carmel, fruit, some bitterness from hops. A little too much sweet and heat, but not bad for the value.

Nice dark ruby with a thick tan head. Huge malt aroma, huge malt flavor, almost like a barly wine, sweet but not cloying. Heavy mouth feel. a touch of spice in the finish.

Oh yeah! My first Eisbock. Straight from a bottle pours a dark brown with a large tan head. Aroma is sweet with hints of caramel, black cherry, brown sugar. Taste is very fruity and chocolate. Finish is a smooth creamy with nutty after taste. Very decent!

11.2oz bottle. Pours a clear dark brown with ruby highlights and a small tan head that leaves minimal lacing. Aroma is sweet caramel, dark fruit, molasses, and a touch of roasted malt. Taste is the same with a smooth creamy texture and mild bitterness. Alcohol is very well hidden and the beer is very well balanced.

One bottle from BOTW. Poured a large tan head. Poured a dark stained oak with thin tan head. The aroma was of sweet malts, cherry fruitiness, a bit of alcohol and a hint of caramel sweetness. The flavor starts with a thick dark fruity sweetness and sweet caramel. Then the malts fade and the fruitiness takes on a complexity with apple and date notes. The beer taste ends sweet, fruity, caramel, a tad nutty and some alcohol warmth.

Bottle - Dark brown, nice head. Aroma is malty fruit, chocolate... Flavors of malt with sour raisins, doughy, sweetfruit-like warming alcohol, bitter finish.
