Commercial Description:
The ice bock, also known as "Bayrisch Gefrorns", owes its discovery to a coincidence. According to the chronicles of the Kulmbacher brewery, some time around 1900 an apprentice forgot on a cold winter day to carry two barrels of bock beer into the brewery cellar. The barrels stayed outside, were covered by ice and snow and weren’t discovered until the following spring. The barrels had burst and the apprentice was reprimanded. But the carelessness was a stroke of luck because under the thick ice coat, a bock beer extract remained, strong tasting and high in alcoholic content.
Even if the dark, tasty speciality is not produced in this spectacular way anymore, the chance that gave birth to this beer became a tradition. Today this beer rarity is brewed in a modern brewing and freezing process, but the incomparable taste is still the same and can always be enjoyed in winter months.

One bottle from BOTW. Poured a large tan head. Poured a dark stained oak with thin tan head. The aroma was of sweet malts, cherry fruitiness, a bit of alcohol and a hint of caramel sweetness. The flavor starts with a thick dark fruity sweetness and sweet caramel. Then the malts fade and the fruitiness takes on a complexity with apple and date notes. The beer taste ends sweet, fruity, caramel, a tad nutty and some alcohol warmth.

Bottle - Dark brown, nice head. Aroma is malty fruit, chocolate... Flavors of malt with sour raisins, doughy, sweetfruit-like warming alcohol, bitter finish.

This was my first Eisbock and I hope I chose well! Pours very dark in the glass but when held up to the light appears ruby red and brown. The head is medium thin and dark tan, doesnt last too long. The aroma is fairly complex and remeniscent of a traditional ale. Ripe dates, sweet, slight alcohol, faint caramel, molasses, and a sort of mustiness. The flavor isn’t quit as upfront as the aroma. Taste mostly molasses and mellow aged raisins and dates. Also has that mustiness to it. The alcohol is well done. The palate is very nice, thick, smooth, and full. The finish is very warming and satisfying. The more you drink this beer the more pleasent it is. The alcohol settles in your stomach and leaves you with this internal warming sensation. Reminds me of old, not like old food or old people. Just like something that would have been more popular hundreds of years ago, but thats just me.

The color was a medium/dark chocolate with amber hues. The head was creamy light beige. The aroma was molasses, brown sugar, raisin, sweet malt, and aged. The flavor was molasses, sweet malt, alcohol, a little tart, a little bourbon, and musty. The palate was very smooth and the finish was very warm.

2004 bottle. Pours brown with a trace of a head that doesn’t stick around very long. Smells of sugar, dark fruit, some splashes of matl. Taste is pronounced sweetness with lots of dark fruity elements. Served as an after dinner cordial. Very nice!

Very, very tasty beer. Pours a dark brown with a slight hint of red when held up to the light. One-finger light tan head that dissipates quickly. Sweet malty aroma with hints of dark, dried fruits and alcohol. Thick, syrupy mouth-feel. Flavor reflects aroma with more alcohol presence. Excellent.

11.2 oz. bottle from 58 degrees and Holding (Tucson) - Pours a clear brown color with a one finger thick light tan head. Aroma is sweet toasted malt, brown sugar, and esters. Flavor is toasted malt with noticeable hop bitterness and light esters (raisin). Has a lingering after taste. Medium to full body. Nice beer.

12oz bottle. i thought on the last day of winter this would be a good send off. pours a dark reddish brown with small tan head, but the color just does it for me. aroma has really big sweet plums and raisins. flavor is pretty sweet with dark fruits, plums, raisins, and black cherries, with nice toffee and caramel supporting the fruit. alcohol is well hidden. perhaps body is a tad thin. a tasty eisbock indeed!
