Commercial Description:
The ice bock, also known as "Bayrisch Gefrorns", owes its discovery to a coincidence. According to the chronicles of the Kulmbacher brewery, some time around 1900 an apprentice forgot on a cold winter day to carry two barrels of bock beer into the brewery cellar. The barrels stayed outside, were covered by ice and snow and weren’t discovered until the following spring. The barrels had burst and the apprentice was reprimanded. But the carelessness was a stroke of luck because under the thick ice coat, a bock beer extract remained, strong tasting and high in alcoholic content.
Even if the dark, tasty speciality is not produced in this spectacular way anymore, the chance that gave birth to this beer became a tradition. Today this beer rarity is brewed in a modern brewing and freezing process, but the incomparable taste is still the same and can always be enjoyed in winter months.

Exits the bottle with a moderately thick pour showing off a dark brown color with burgundy highlights. Creates a 1/2" thick, dense tan colored head which slowly diminishes to a spotty film. Nose shows off aromas of brandy-soaked dark fruit cake, chocolate covered malt balls, caramel, molasses and dark brown sugar along with a hefty blast of alcohol. Palate is quite thick, sticky and oily with a moderate level of carbonation present to tame the candy-like sweet aromas. Taste is rich, sweet and very malty. Lots of raisin, fig, brandy, molasses, smoked maple syrup, and burnt dark caramel notes dance lively on the tongue. Again the 9.2% alcohol comes through to warm it all up and cut down any overwhelming sweetness. Finishes with nice noticeable semi-dry roasted malt aftertaste. Also love the prism design label. Good stuff here!!

Bottle appears to be dated Oct. 22, 2004, black pour, off white diminishing head, drank colder than normal so a little watery/oily grainy malt nicely TOASTED, light perfumy hop, slightly sourish, doesn’t taste like something 9.2%.

Pours an extremely thick black with a tiny head. Nice sweet sweet malt dominate the nose with slight hints of a smokey roasted character. Nice creamy malty flavor with hints of chocolate, cramel, and more sweet malt. A very dense and complicated beer that I could diagnose better, but enjoying it works better.

Clean and crisp smell, but unidentifiable (this could have something to do with the fact that I had it in a divey bar :D Dark brown and clear in colour. Weak head. Complex taste, spicy, barley, malts. Get mix altogether. Tingles the tongue. A taste explosion, very very nice.

Scent has strong alcohol flavors, particularly that of a smooth, sweet brandy with hints of raisins...very enjoyable...like a fine wine! Nice color pour with a quickly dispersing head. Flavor fits the aroma exceptionally...smooth brandy flavor with hints of molasses and brown sugar...thick coating on the palate and very drinkable...high quality bock with an awesome label to boot!
