Commercial Description:
The ice bock, also known as "Bayrisch Gefrorns", owes its discovery to a coincidence. According to the chronicles of the Kulmbacher brewery, some time around 1900 an apprentice forgot on a cold winter day to carry two barrels of bock beer into the brewery cellar. The barrels stayed outside, were covered by ice and snow and weren’t discovered until the following spring. The barrels had burst and the apprentice was reprimanded. But the carelessness was a stroke of luck because under the thick ice coat, a bock beer extract remained, strong tasting and high in alcoholic content.
Even if the dark, tasty speciality is not produced in this spectacular way anymore, the chance that gave birth to this beer became a tradition. Today this beer rarity is brewed in a modern brewing and freezing process, but the incomparable taste is still the same and can always be enjoyed in winter months.

Dark mahogany colour with a pale tan head. Notes of chocolate and burned caramel. On the palate, the flavors are harmoniously accompanied by toffee, macadamia nut brittle, juniper berries, and Pedro Ximenez sherry. Very fine beer.

Brilliant clear copper with a brown head, poor retention. Reasonably soft aroma of alcohol, toffee and oak. The flavour is very strong, alcohol, oak, whiskey and brown sugar. Very very alcoholic but amazingly smooth. The carbonation is perfectly light. The finish is warming and sweet. A definite sipper.

This is a sweet bottle. Aroma was a chocolate, sweetness, and some fruitiness. Flavor was similar and maybe a little nutty and tasted a little hot. I dont know what it is but i have never been a fan of any european bocks, they just have some taste i do not enjoy that much.

Bottle. Pours dark caramel/ruby with nearly no head. Aroma is sweet, mainly of caramel and a hint of dark fruits, with a strong undertone of soy sauce. Flavor is similar, a bit more complex and less sweet, but still with the soy-sauce element. I would drink this again, but the soy sauce part really is kind of distracting in my opinion. Given the other reviews, I’m not sure if I got a bad bottle or my tastes are just unusual.

Prominent earthy nose of port, raisen, wood and figs. Delicious taste of cherries, plums and currants. The strong alcohol content does not get in the way of the toffee and caramel notes from the malt. Excellent balance and complexity. Smooth palate. I love just smelling this stuff!

Aroma is seriously sweet malty goodness, like toffee with loads of nutts. Taste is more fruity than nutty with some biscuit/fig intence flavours going on.

Dark brown in color. Rich malt aroma from the pour. Smells of caramel and toffee. Wonderful almond colored head. Wow. What rich flavor and texture. Lots of figs, dates, plums, raisin. Finish of some chocolate. Alcohol is not that present until it hit the bottom of my stomach. This is an amazing beer, and my first German eisbock.
