puzzl (2579), New York, New York, USA Apr 11, 2006 Strong, malt bomb aroma, with underlying apple juice, brown sugar. Deep black pour. Flavor has a nice sweetness to its malt with zero hop balance, which is OK for the style. A bit of BBQ sauce, maybe, in the taste, with caramel, marshmellow, apple. GonZoBeeR (2155), ste-Eulalie, Quebec, Canada Apr 7, 2006 Aroma:chocolat,caramel....
Appearance:dark redish-brown,very light head...
Flavor:alcohol, caramel, light chocolate. Not very strong for a eisbock... Gachupines (290), USA Mar 28, 2006 This is actually the first eisbock that I’ve had, and now I only wish I had thought to pick some up before. I’ve had dopplebocks, and this is like an amped up version which I suppose is the point. Appearance is a deep ruby, almost black in certain light with a head that doesn’t linger too long. Taste is almost too sweet, but it stops short of being cloying. Strong malt balance with a dark fruit taste. Well balanced, easy to drink and hard to believe that its 9.2%. Quite an enjoyable beer. This is one impulse buy that I am not regretting. RCL (1443), Waltham, Massachusetts, USA Mar 28, 2006 Don’t let the gimmicky label fool you, this is some great beer. Impeccable balance, just delicious. The best Eisbock I’ve had. jpm30 (1588), East Central, Georgia, USA Mar 25, 2006 From a slender 11.2 oz. narrow neck brown bottle with a coded bottled/freshness date on bottom right side of the reflective silver dotted front label. Made a very good appearance, poured a rudy hued garnet with a large foamy pale tan head that settled into a thin, foamy lacing, moderate carbonation. Had a nice sweet malty aroma with dark ripe fruitiness, raisins and figs, with whiffs of sweet alcohol. A creamy, smooth medium bodied mouth feel, good drinkability. A sweet dark fruity malty taste with a little breadiness, a warm alcohol presence in the palate, a light hoppiness and a sweet malty finish with a little alcohol warmth lingering on the tongue.
SledgeJr (2957), Omaha, Nebraska, USA Mar 23, 2006 On tap at the Huber Haus for the 2006 Bockfest. Outrageously smooth for a beer with this level of ethanol! Fruity in a raisin/plum maltiness way. Rich tan head atop a dark brown bier. This seems to have a little harsher palate in the bottle. I just can’t believe this is so strong in the draft version. Super sweet, but so strong that it does not seem out of whack. Yum. Salsgebom (20), North Carolina, USA Mar 18, 2006 Wonderful beer. I stopped rating here but came back just to tell my wonderful experience with this one. I bought it because I’ve never had an ice beer that was supposed to be good; I was expecting the worst. The malty flavor is rich and inviting. I could not put this one down. Very friendly for a 9%, it must have been aged thoroughly to be so smooth. I’m going back for many more of these. biz82 (1328), austin, Texas, USA Mar 15, 2006 Thick, nearly flat pour. Clear reddish brown. Earthy caramel aroma with notes of toffee and coffee. Sweet, heavy fruit flavor of raisens and over ripe plums with caramel malt. Big silky body. No hop flavor to speak of but it has a low level of balancing bitterness. Better than any Dopplebock I’ve had, though I’ve had few Eisbocks to compare to.
