GregClow (2493), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Mar 13, 2006 Bottle from Premier Gourmet, Buffalo. Nice dark mahogany colour with a small light brown head. Aroma is sweet and malty, with notes that oddly reminded me of Dr. Pepper mixed with birch beer (my two favourite soda flavours, so I mean that as a compliment!). Flavour didn’t wow me at first, but as the beer warmed, it got quite complex and more impressive - sweet and malty, some dark cherry and brown sugar, earthy - starting to remind me a bit of Brio, another of my favourite sodas - nice, warm finish, but not as hot as I expected from a 9.2% beer. This is some great stuff. twindadplus2 (408), Wisconsin, USA Mar 7, 2006 Dark ruby brown with a nice, fizzy, light brown head. Aroma is powerful malts, cherries, vanilla and spice. Taste is brown sugar malt, dark fruits and alcohol spice. Smooth, full mouthfeel and a long, complex, warming finish. A great beer to be truly savored. joeycapps (1466), Waterdown, Ontario, Canada Mar 6, 2006 Dark brown w/ finger of light brown foam. Rich, roasted malt flavour w/ some licorice & treacle notes & an underlying hint of black cherry. Thick, oily feel. Flavour is rich & malty w/ a warm alcohol laden finish. daalamar (403), bardstown, Kentucky, USA Mar 5, 2006 Another of my selections from Gravity Head 2006. Comes off the tap a beautiful brown/orange color with only a small ring of a head. Aroma is light but easily discernable with sweetness and powerful malts making themselves known, and just the slightest hint of alcohol. Flavor is smooth and sweet, but not too sweet. There is almost no hop whatsoever. The mouthfeel is extremely smooth not oily, more like velvety. Very clean finish. Good beer and another that gets my recommendation. kreepindeth (405), Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, USA Mar 3, 2006 Nose is like sweet malt extract. Taste is very rich, almost too sweet. Alcohol is very well hidden. Has a beautiful mouthful. In an odd way, this reminds me of World Wide Stout for some reason. henrikb (1298), Aarhus, Denmark Feb 26, 2006 Deep classic Bock nose(to me this means: a little sharp, cold, metallic tones like the smell of cheap white sugar). But this beer has an incredible deep nose of warmth as well: dried fruits, most distinctly figs, but also raisins, plums and prunes. Brown sugar and the warmth of alcohol is also very apparent; The body is medium full and very, very well balanced, with all elements apparent (sweet, sour, bitter, salty); The finish is long and complex with lots of malt, sweetness and a little bitterness. Great beer, but Bocks are very special! stouby (1931), Holbaek, Denmark Feb 24, 2006 Bottle, at Delirium Cafe.
Sample shared with rickgordon. Dark red with a light brown head, fully diminishing, no lacings. Aroma heavy malty (brown fruit/sugar, chocolate) and light hoppy. Flavor heavy sweet, moderate bittersweet. Medium body, creamy, soft carbonated. Heavy in alcohol. jtw (942), farmington, Michigan, USA Feb 15, 2006 wow, that’s a deep deep brown with intense aromas of caramel and brown sugar/molasses, and peat and bubble-gummy sweetness. very excellent - the flavors are extraordinarily balanced and smooth for 9.2% and despite the high alcohol content there is not any hotness or burn. not to mention it has a cool holographic label!
