Commercial Description:
The ice bock, also known as "Bayrisch Gefrorns", owes its discovery to a coincidence. According to the chronicles of the Kulmbacher brewery, some time around 1900 an apprentice forgot on a cold winter day to carry two barrels of bock beer into the brewery cellar. The barrels stayed outside, were covered by ice and snow and weren’t discovered until the following spring. The barrels had burst and the apprentice was reprimanded. But the carelessness was a stroke of luck because under the thick ice coat, a bock beer extract remained, strong tasting and high in alcoholic content.
Even if the dark, tasty speciality is not produced in this spectacular way anymore, the chance that gave birth to this beer became a tradition. Today this beer rarity is brewed in a modern brewing and freezing process, but the incomparable taste is still the same and can always be enjoyed in winter months.

1st Rating from 3rd Annual Woodshop tasting in Temple City, CA. 3/1/08. One hell of a day put on by Cquiroga, thanks for a killer day Chris. Also spent the day there with bikesanbeer, my girlfriend Cyn, wetherel, JohnC, DenverLogan, dirty_martini, jasparg, DrBil, IPAFiend, awaisanen and many others, this was one crazy day. Same Bottle DenverLogan Had below. Jully 11, 1996 24% Plato. Pours Brown with no head. Nose is sweet and crazy gnarly. Taste is sweet and strong and not so super sweet and hides however big the alc actual is.

Smallish off-white head, which subsides. Dark mahogany red body. Aroma is malty, with hints of alcohol and roastiness. Taste is dark and subtle, somewhat roasty, giving way to deep toffee-like sweetness and finally alcohol heat balanced by faint hop bitterness. A very good, and very interesting beer. I wouldn’t have that many at once (for more than one reason :), but very good.

On tap at the Huber Haus for the 2006 Bockfest. Outrageously smooth for a beer with this level of ethanol! Fruity in a raisin/plum maltiness way. Rich tan head atop a dark brown bier. This seems to have a little harsher palate in the bottle. I just can’t believe this is so strong in the draft version. Super sweet, but so strong that it does not seem out of whack. Yum.

Dark brown. Malt aroma, sweet. Flavor is very sweet. No alcohol in the flavor. Carmel, malt, sugar, campfire. Not as good as Celebrator, but an excellent bock.

thank you belgianbeergal! This is delicious. My first eisbock!!! Pours a black color with a fluffy mostly white head that disappeared pretty quickly. forget the hops here, this is all syrup, malt, dried fruit, raisins, molasses. And that goes for the aroma and flavor. Sweet and smooth. What a sipper. Better as is warmed...man oh man I want more...more I say!!

Bottle. Dark mahogony beer with a nice tan head. Big dark carmalized malt aroma with a bit of fruitinerss. Nice caramelized malt flavor with some brown sugar and maple sugar. Alchol well hidden. Caramel malt lingers. Well but together, no off flavors and everything melds nicely.

Pours a muddy brown color with a thin light brown head. Strong and rich aroma and flavor of malt and dark fruits. Medium body, liquorous texture, lively carbonation. Hmmmm me like ! I love the rich, heavy malt in this beer !
