Commercial Description:
The ice bock, also known as "Bayrisch Gefrorns", owes its discovery to a coincidence. According to the chronicles of the Kulmbacher brewery, some time around 1900 an apprentice forgot on a cold winter day to carry two barrels of bock beer into the brewery cellar. The barrels stayed outside, were covered by ice and snow and weren’t discovered until the following spring. The barrels had burst and the apprentice was reprimanded. But the carelessness was a stroke of luck because under the thick ice coat, a bock beer extract remained, strong tasting and high in alcoholic content.
Even if the dark, tasty speciality is not produced in this spectacular way anymore, the chance that gave birth to this beer became a tradition. Today this beer rarity is brewed in a modern brewing and freezing process, but the incomparable taste is still the same and can always be enjoyed in winter months.

Dark reddish brown, almost blac, big foamy head. Mild aroma, figs, cherry and a hint of chocolate and smoke. Flavor is Pumpernickel bread and blackberry, also mildly smoky. There are some hints of chocolate and coffee, too. Surprisingly tasty.

Big aroma, malty, caramel, rich, like crackling bread in the oven. Clear dark brown, nice nutty color, a bit of head but not much. Mild alcohol flavor, not at all stinging, warming, rich long finish, woody, raisins. A little bit flat on the palate.

This is a truly great beer, a runs a close second to my favorite eisbock which is the Schneider, but this is wonderful. Great sweet caramel bread flavors, a nice tingly sweetness, with some spiciness thrown in for bite. I could sip on this all night.

This is the most delicate, subtle and subdued eisbock I've ever had - nothing like the cloying, palate-assaulting beasts that so often go by the name - dark ruby with moderate, fizzy head that disappears almost completely - subdued, but complex aroma of candy sugar, plums, cloves - very mild sweetness in the flavor, with wonderfully subtle flavors of plums and other dark fruits - tingling carbonation - dates, figs, and a hint of black cherry - certain qualities remind me more of an abbey dubbel - dangerously well-masked alcohol - I wish more beers of this style were like this.

Aroma is alcohol and sweet malt. Even though you can smell the alchohal its not an overly strong beer. The appearance is dark brown and the head is small. The flavor is sweet roasted malt and some hops. Light palate and aftertaste that is fruity. Prett good.
