Commercial Description:
The ice bock, also known as "Bayrisch Gefrorns", owes its discovery to a coincidence. According to the chronicles of the Kulmbacher brewery, some time around 1900 an apprentice forgot on a cold winter day to carry two barrels of bock beer into the brewery cellar. The barrels stayed outside, were covered by ice and snow and weren’t discovered until the following spring. The barrels had burst and the apprentice was reprimanded. But the carelessness was a stroke of luck because under the thick ice coat, a bock beer extract remained, strong tasting and high in alcoholic content.
Even if the dark, tasty speciality is not produced in this spectacular way anymore, the chance that gave birth to this beer became a tradition. Today this beer rarity is brewed in a modern brewing and freezing process, but the incomparable taste is still the same and can always be enjoyed in winter months.

33 cl bottle. No yeast at the bottom. Reddish brown colour with a weak head. Sweet malty aroma with notes of caramel. Very tasty and clean flavour of sweet malt, fruit, caramel and alcohol. Ends up sweet and little dry.

(Bottle) Reddish brown colour with firm, creamy, beige head. Malty nose with notes of dried fruit, chocolate, toffee, liquorice and hints of alcohol (a bit like cherries in brandy). Malty taste with dried fruit, coffee, dark rye bread, chocolate, liquorice and a finish with a touch of spicy hops, toasty malt and warming alcohol. Full body, fairly sweet (but not as sweet as I expected). Smooth and rounded mouthfeel with an almost overwhelming malt character. Excellent balance. Lovely beer.

Bottle: Pours a very deep brown with ruby tints and a fading tan head. The aroma is loaded with sweet maltyness. Maple and brown sugar dominate. Slick mouthfeel, with a nice alcohol warmth. Dense maltyness gives off chocolate, brown sugar, light maple notes, and a roasty, slightly nutty (walnut?) finish with lots of smooth alcohol warmth. A solid malty warmer.

Strong, malt bomb aroma, with underlying apple juice, brown sugar. Deep black pour. Flavor has a nice sweetness to its malt with zero hop balance, which is OK for the style. A bit of BBQ sauce, maybe, in the taste, with caramel, marshmellow, apple.

The beer as it distances itself from the bottle pours a deep ruby color with a behemothic head, the texture creamy, the color a toothsome light tan as the head slowly fades away to nothingness, the lace forms a tight skirt to conceal the glass. Nose is a bit plummish, malt laden; sweet, crisp and refreshing, start is quite sweet, lots of malt, top is moderate in its feel to the palate. Finish is perky in its acidity, the hops are delectable in their spiciness, very dry and long lasting aftertaste, and quaffable tis true, a bit of a belly warmer to boot, well worth a try.

Big, figgy, sherry/plum bock aroma with bitter chocolate and light vinegar- quite good. Very dark, clear, rootbeer brown beer, tall head in a pint glass, cool holographic crystal effect on the label. Strong, but nice and smooth. Reminds me of Moretti La Rossa. Fairly sweet, prune-y flavor, reasonably boozy. A chalky, chocolate finish over a viscous beer -- making for a pudding-like mouthfeel. Really a good beer, but one or two is plenty. Liquor Loft.

Fine light tan head on a dark amber body. Rather cloying in the aroma. Malt, soy, alcohol and a tone of meat (!) Sweet and heavy malty and caramelly flavor with notes of prunes and raisins and too much alcohol. A heavy beer, Eisbocks are definately not among my favorites!

[2590-20091114] 11.2floz bottle. Strong date roast aroma. Slightly hazy, dark brown body with a quick foamy off-white head. Sweet strong date roasty malt flavour is rich. Medium-full body. Very tasty, lots going on.
