| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jun 27, 2004 Rich, full, malty aroma, dark fruits abound along with notes of milk chocolate, faint cherry, vanilla, banana, walnut, toffee and an underlying tobacco earthiness. Unusually deep, dark mahogany color, filtered, with a fine, slight head and stippled lace. Flavor is predominantly sugary and fruity, with some dark breadiness up front, then drenched with toffeeish and caramel sweetness, while towards the long finish notes of licorice, raisin, butterscotch and plum emerge. Full bodied to be sure, palate is thin and smooth, the effervescence low. An excellent choice for a nightcap or dessert. Not quite as remarkable as I recall the original Kulmbacher Reichelbrau product being, but it has been several years, of course. Cheers, Jeff. charlotte (2036), Vanløse, Denmark

| 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 19/20 | Jun 18, 2004 Updated: Aug 12, 2007Sampled from a rather pretty 11.2 oz bottle this beer pours a dark mahogany color with a small tan head. The aroma is very strong and pleasant with strong notes of sour malts, molasses, maple syrup and banana. The palate is thick and chewy. The flavor is dominated by the chocolate, molasses, maple and banana that the aroma promised. The aroma and flavor increase dramatically as the beer gets warm -such to the point that I could never recommend drinking this one cold. For the love of god, please let it warm up! You will be richly rewarded. cheapdark (2026), Monacatootha, Pennsylvania, USA
| 1.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 2/10 | 1/5 | 5/20 | Jun 25, 2009 How did I get such a highly rated beer for so cheap? Vintage of course. $2 for a 12 oz bottle. A darker thicker beer. Has a sweeter wheat aroma, quite enticing. Strong and thick on the buds from the beginning. Thick and oily alky impressions. Truly dizzying after a while and in yer face. Alky flavors almost like high gravity cheap american beers but stronger and thicker. Perhaps a bit more palatable than those cheapo HGs. Difficult to handle for this lager wooss any horn. I guess they can’t sell this in some states, woohoo. hheheheh Angeloregon (2025), Portland, Oregon, USA

Sweet malty nose with notes of roasted dark fruits. Brown sugar and molasses flavors, slightly cream vanilla in the finish. Very very smooth considering ABV. dirtymike (2018), Manchester, New Hampshire, USA

| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Mar 4, 2008 Bottle shared by JohnathanL at tasting. Thanks! Pours dark brown to black and looks like coca-cola in the glass with little head. Smell and flavor are both of strong dark malty caramel and alcohol. Notes weren’t particularly long on this beer, but the strong toffee like caramelly sweetness was what mostly stood out. The alcohol wasn’t overpowering in the flavor though.
