Aroma of raisins, chocolate, roasted malts, brown sugar, alcohol. Taste is pretty much the same, though the alcohol isn’t quite as noticeable. Full-bodied, moderate carbonation. Very good beer. My first eisbock. nearbeer (1868), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA

Chocolate, raisins and molasses with a whiff of alcohol in the delicious nose. Flavor has all the same characteristics, plus some woody notes, toffee, corn and a slight dry-earth spiciness. Smooth medium-heavy body has some slight tingle on the end. RAYBOY01 (1868), Chicago, Illinois, USA

Seemed cloying and overly-sweet...a bit malt-top-heavy. I’ll give it another shot someday and rerate, when I’m not so pissy.. DrnkMcDermott (1861), Downers Grove, Illinois, USA

Something that looks this fancy goes into my snifter, I guess. Kicks up a great barley smell, like your favorite brewpub on brewing day. Thin barleywine type head, deep brown body with red where the light can get through. Taste is big, bold, grainy and very sweet, just a teensy bit of sourness to suggest a smoke Affy Tapple. If they made wort into candies, this is what it would taste like. Lots of heady brandy-ish crystal malts. Still has some yeasty esters that might improve with aging, but I don’t know how long I can hold on to this. Some general bitterness that becomes German hops largely by the power of suggestion. I found this at Binny’s in Willowbrook, though they are clearly making a push into the US market. Let ’em come, I say! mgumby10 (1858), Jupiter, Florida, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jul 19, 2007 Pours a dark red maroon, almost glowing, with a small off brown head which hugs the sides of the glass. Smells of rich, sweet malts, alot of dark fruit, berries, grapes, and a little apple. The taste is very fruity, with a syrupy mouthfeel, rich malts, with a hint of some cinnamon too. The caramel is big in the finish, which turns into sweet fruit. Much is the same in the aftertaste. Killer brew. Crosling (1856), Loveland, Colorado, USA

Interesting, somewhat subdued aroma of madiera, rubber, ports, deep rich malts and figs.
Malt accented flavor profile that I really enjoyed. Stunning notes of caramel overtake the palate while other notes of brown sugar, dark ripe fruits, figs and prunes. Full-bodied.
I’ve had some better eisbocks but this one is very nice. LinusStick (1851), Moon Twp, suburb of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA

The pour was a blackish red with a four finger lingering head. Malt and caramel in the taste and a bittersweet ending wrap it up. CharlesDarwin (1849), Point Judith, Rhode Island, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Aug 10, 2005 Thanks to JPDIPSO! Dark, clear brown with off-white head. Light aroma of dusty malt and wheat. Flavor is rich, blossoming and wheaty. Full of nice roasted nutty tones. Alcohol is glowing and warm, but not overpowering. Fairly one dimensional, but delicious and somewhat intricate. Some notes of port, and a touch of bourbon. A light touch of pear and banana on the back end.
