Very little head that dissipates quickly. Aroma is a slight nuttiness with some caramel. Mouthfeel is thick, but appropriate for the style. Taste is pit fruit and a toffee-like flavor. And wow is the alcohol hidden well. The packaging is garish and dumb, but there is a decent beer in the bottle. DSG (1513), Tel Aviv, Israel
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jul 16, 2008 Updated: Sep 13, 2008Bottle. Best before 1/27/09. Very dark brown color with a big beige head. Aroma has lots of malt, some caramel, light roastiness, some subdued chocolate notes, hints of fruits and alcohol. The sweet flavor is bursting with malt and has caramel, some bread and light roasted notes. A good thick body. Really good, I wish I’d tried this one on some cold January night and not on a sweaty middle-eastern July night. Finn (1510), Tromsø, Norway
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jan 16, 2008 On bottle in Fasslwirtschaft Riedenburg 21 Jun 07. Found it again! The last time I had it was in my pre-ratebeer period and I’ve been longing for it for years. Strong sweet malty aroma. Dark brown color. A complex caramellish flavor. Well rounded. A lasting, sweet roasted aftertaste with a pleasant sweet bitter and roasted aftertaste. A perfect stand-alone beer for dessert. LilBeerDoctor (1502), East Setauket, New York, USA

Flavor pretty much dominated by raisins and sweetness. Heavy palate and rather undrinkable. Not a fan. shadey (1500), Rochester, New York, USA

| 4.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 4/5 | 10/10 | 5/5 | 19/20 | Dec 20, 2003 Color is a solid shiny tary black, a medium tannish head appears from a vigorous pour only to dissolve quickly away to a thin collar, globby lace in blotches that don't last. Hell...O... there, wow, what a smell! Yummy, thick, rich, lush dark fruit heaven of a nose! Load of malty sweetness, nice dark caramel and toffee with all sorts of little dark fruitened things in there with prune and dates mostly with some fig and raisin hints. Smokey molasses and banana too. What a fantastic nose!! Yum, yum, yum! This stuff rocks!! It takes over where the smell leaves off with the wanting of more! Huge amounts of malty richness, thick and chewy, not overbearingly so, but plentiful in its presense with great dark caramel mixing with toffee. The dark fruits are unimaginably yummy! Plum, prune, fig, and raisin, touches of banana tangyness; then there's some molasses spicyness with some nice little tid bits of smokened earth, brown sugar, chocolate, and black cherry. The sweetness is so rich and deeply dark its wonderful! Has a thinnish start and a bit thin in the finish and is over a little to quick, but overall this sucker is full and thick with a incredibly creamyness and nice chewyness, some stickyness with great lingering malty chewy sweetness leaving notes of dark toffee and tangy dark fruits on the palate. Just a nudge of alcoholic warmth but barely noticeable. One awesome brew thats super yummy, creamy smooth and full of flavor! Strongly Recommended. Easily one of the best beers ever, so unique and very yummy! Eructoblaster (1491), Gatineau, Quebec, Canada

Nice and complex malty/hoppy aroma with hints of roasted cereals, chocolate, vanilla, plum and brown sugar. Alcohol is very well hidden. Taste shows a good balance. It carries sweet, fruity, toffeeish and roasty notes. Ends with a long, sweet and warming finish. Wonderful Eisbock!
