Commercial Description:
The ice bock, also known as "Bayrisch Gefrorns", owes its discovery to a coincidence. According to the chronicles of the Kulmbacher brewery, some time around 1900 an apprentice forgot on a cold winter day to carry two barrels of bock beer into the brewery cellar. The barrels stayed outside, were covered by ice and snow and weren’t discovered until the following spring. The barrels had burst and the apprentice was reprimanded. But the carelessness was a stroke of luck because under the thick ice coat, a bock beer extract remained, strong tasting and high in alcoholic content.
Even if the dark, tasty speciality is not produced in this spectacular way anymore, the chance that gave birth to this beer became a tradition. Today this beer rarity is brewed in a modern brewing and freezing process, but the incomparable taste is still the same and can always be enjoyed in winter months.

12 oz bottle from Oak Tree. Poured a deep mahogany brown with deep scarlet edges and a large foamy light beige head. Sticky sweet aroma of buttered raisin toast, prunes, plum, chocolate, brown sugar, toffee. Full dry body that is much drier then I was expecting. The flavor is nicely balanced between the sweet aroma and dry body. Notes of raisin, brown bread, plum, prune, wood, sugary toffee. Really nice and very well done, highly enjoyable.

Dark brown w/ finger of light brown foam. Rich, roasted malt flavour w/ some licorice & treacle notes & an underlying hint of black cherry. Thick, oily feel. Flavour is rich & malty w/ a warm alcohol laden finish.

Lots of alcohol in the nose, soy. Darkbrown body, with little white head. Flavor of soy, alcohol and rotten meat. This beer is just plain gross...

11.2 oz bottle. Cola colored with a quick settling bubbly tan head. Very faint aroma of Dr. Pepper, licorice, cloves and brown bread. The strong concentration of flavors remind me of a Belgian quad. Raisins and cocoa then to brown sugar and sour grapes. Medium body; not quite thick. Nice bracing carb holds out to the finish. I like this style better than the other bocks; more to chew on.

31.12.03. Dark brown and red with a huge, inch-thick brown head. Strong aroma of roasted barley, raisin, molasses, plum and a hint of smoke. Really, a splendid nose to be sure. The body is nice and full, without being too thick or sticky. Very pleasant. Both toasty and sweet with all that malt. A bunch of raisin, caramel, toffee, fig and a variety of other fruits. Incredibly drinkable with no alcohol present, despite the strong abv. Just a smooth, tasty beer with a ton of flavor and well-crafted enough to hide alcohol and provide smooth, pleasant tastes. Find this beer if you can.

12 oz bottle from West LakeView Liquors. Clear ruby amber color with a tall beige head. Light aroma of malt and carmel. Malty sweet flavors brown sugar, carmel, fruit, some bitterness from hops. A little too much sweet and heat, but not bad for the value.

Dark ruby pour. Strong aroma. Smells of fermented fruit and aged grapes. Definitely a red wine type of flavor with a slightly dry finish. Alcohol is not tasted at all. My first eisbock and a superb sample!
