Commercial Description:
The ice bock, also known as "Bayrisch Gefrorns", owes its discovery to a coincidence. According to the chronicles of the Kulmbacher brewery, some time around 1900 an apprentice forgot on a cold winter day to carry two barrels of bock beer into the brewery cellar. The barrels stayed outside, were covered by ice and snow and weren’t discovered until the following spring. The barrels had burst and the apprentice was reprimanded. But the carelessness was a stroke of luck because under the thick ice coat, a bock beer extract remained, strong tasting and high in alcoholic content.
Even if the dark, tasty speciality is not produced in this spectacular way anymore, the chance that gave birth to this beer became a tradition. Today this beer rarity is brewed in a modern brewing and freezing process, but the incomparable taste is still the same and can always be enjoyed in winter months.

This stuff is tasty. Pours a dark brown color with reddish highlights. Head is small to medium sized and is an off white color. Nose is booze, chocolate, caramel, yeast, and bread. Taste is very sweet with some caramel and sugar. The alcohol content is somewhat present but it makes the beer what it is. I enjoyed this one and the holographic label is pretty different as well.

Pours a dark black with a fizzy small head. This stuff smells strongly of alcohol (kind of like a hard liquor) also roasted sweet malt and caramel. Flavor is roasted malt, chocolate, dark fruit, and caramel, with a sweet alcohol finsh. Good, but I was looking forward to more.

Rich, thanks. This poured dark, with a foamy rich tan head. On the pour there seems a lot of carbination. The nose has caramel and roasted malts. The taste, Wow, Raisins and malts, good full mouth feel, Bitter end, this is a quality brew.

Dark mahogany colour with a pale tan head. Notes of chocolate and burned caramel. On the palate, the flavors are harmoniously accompanied by toffee, macadamia nut brittle, juniper berries, and Pedro Ximenez sherry. Very fine beer.

Smoky nose. Black and a sticky white head. More smoke and charred character in the sip, floral bouquet mid plate. Sweet finish with more smoke.

What's better than a bier hand delivered from Germany? A good one. Thought that this one would help me break my standard St. Paddy's day outing. Very nice brown - ruby tinged with with light. Low carbonation. Soft to the pallet, sweet, but not cloying in the least. I have no idea if this is fresh or aged as theres no date (haltbar bis: ?) I find the alcohol very well hidden. Fruity - (dates) and chocolate. VERY enjoyable. Thanks to Pivo ever so much.

Bottled. Very dark brown colour with ruby highlights. Aroma is mild chocolate and a hint of alcohol. Flavour is more chocolate, some vanilla and molasses. Warming alcohol in the finish. Well done.
