Commercial Description:
The ice bock, also known as "Bayrisch Gefrorns", owes its discovery to a coincidence. According to the chronicles of the Kulmbacher brewery, some time around 1900 an apprentice forgot on a cold winter day to carry two barrels of bock beer into the brewery cellar. The barrels stayed outside, were covered by ice and snow and weren’t discovered until the following spring. The barrels had burst and the apprentice was reprimanded. But the carelessness was a stroke of luck because under the thick ice coat, a bock beer extract remained, strong tasting and high in alcoholic content.
Even if the dark, tasty speciality is not produced in this spectacular way anymore, the chance that gave birth to this beer became a tradition. Today this beer rarity is brewed in a modern brewing and freezing process, but the incomparable taste is still the same and can always be enjoyed in winter months.

i’m sorry, I’m sure this is a well-made beer, but it makes me want to throw up. And I can’t go giving high marks to a well-made beer that makes me gag. ugh. powerful stench of rotting pawpaw drowned in soysauce. Horrifically sweet and chunky in the mouth with more soysauce and prunes. I even checked by sniffing some kikkoman. It was the same. Sorry, just not my thing. thanks anyway motel for sending it

Very sweetly malty nose. Nice head--which is whitish. Beautiful balance of the caramel and chocolate malts. Alcohol is noted in the flavor but it does not burn. God damn good beer.

Robe rousse claire surmontée d’une mousse beige persistente. Arômes de caramel, d’alcool et de levures. Saveurs d’alcool, de malt caramélisé et de fruits.

Wonderful brew. Pours a dark brown with almost no head at all. Sweet malty aroma with hints of raisins, dates, figs. Flavor is rich and darkly sweet, more of the dark fruitiness, a touch of yeast and a massive - but not overwhelming - alcohol presence that lends a nice warmth. Great lingering aftertaste. Very much like a doppelbock, only more so. Excellent.

Yeah! Beer field trip in Köln. Draught (lucky me) at the biermuseum. Coffee and chocolate in the aroma. Thich beige head, dark cola colour. The taste is extreme! Thick, oily, fluffy at the same time. Notes of malt and dark bread. Looooong finish.

Malty aromas with some soy sauce and light alcohol. Almost black with ruby red highlights. Medium to full palate. The taste is massive malt with a yeast presence as well.

On tap at stumbling monk. Dark hue with nice sweet aroma and a great balanced sweet taste with dark fruity sweetness.

Poured dark brown with reddish hues with a small off-white head that dissipated quickly and left no lacing on the glass. The aroma is strong and vinuous, and seems to echo hints of grapes or raisins. The taste is very complex, with hints of raisin, brown sugar, and spices, with a syrupy sweet finish laced with a slight alcohol twinge. I’m not particularly fond of this style, but this is a fine drink nonetheless.
