Commercial Description:
The ice bock, also known as "Bayrisch Gefrorns", owes its discovery to a coincidence. According to the chronicles of the Kulmbacher brewery, some time around 1900 an apprentice forgot on a cold winter day to carry two barrels of bock beer into the brewery cellar. The barrels stayed outside, were covered by ice and snow and weren’t discovered until the following spring. The barrels had burst and the apprentice was reprimanded. But the carelessness was a stroke of luck because under the thick ice coat, a bock beer extract remained, strong tasting and high in alcoholic content.
Even if the dark, tasty speciality is not produced in this spectacular way anymore, the chance that gave birth to this beer became a tradition. Today this beer rarity is brewed in a modern brewing and freezing process, but the incomparable taste is still the same and can always be enjoyed in winter months.

Pours dark amber with small brown head. Very sweet smelling nose of roasted malt. Flavor is really sweet at first, then settles down were you have a more complex flavor of lightly toasted malt with a decent amount of alcohol. Very smooth texture and nice clean finish.

Kulmbacher Eisbock has a pleasent caramel malt aroma with undertones of the alcohol coming through. The color is black with hints of ruby red. The head is tan. The flavor starts off with a caramel sweetness and roastedness. The finish has a slight hint of dark fruit. On the palate there is a slight build up as the flavor lingers and slowly vanishes.

Get this... Bottle marked July 11, 1996, Bottle #20937. Kulmbacher Reichelbrau Eisbock. Awesome! Many thanks to brewandbbq for this ancient treat! Pours dark brown with a very little, fizzy head. Smells sweet and malty, only a very tiny hint of oxidation. Tastes awesome. Dark and malty and caramelly sweet, somewhat roasty. Thick body, even with the lack of a significant head the carbonation is surprisingly good.

12 oz bottle Malt of The Earth Beer club. Pours a clear dark reddish brown with a massive beige head. Mellow aroma has notes of vanilla, toffee, plums, hazlenuts and some alcohol. Wow this is sweet. Flavor is mostly fruity....stawberries, cantelop melon, peach, and an alcohol kick at the end..a nice kick though without the burn. Worldclass beer.Extra points for the cool label design.

Pours a deep brown amber hue with a frothy off-white head that dies quickly. Aromas of caramel, oats, molasses, raisins and prunes. Mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with a quick fading finish. Flavors of prunes/dark fruits, a hint of cola, caramel, and some brown sugar. The alcohol is actually subued by the rich flavors.
