Wonderful nose of this one, reminds me of dates, wood, plums, red grapes and some burnt, charred oak or cedar wood. Slightly boozy in the nose as well. Texture is moderately thick, slick and a bit sweet, full and thick. Tastes more of plums, pipe tobacco and wood, with a nice earthy, dark fruit alcohol presence. Great stuff. madsberg (4966), Søborg, Denmark

Some alcahol present. Flavour is fruity (prunes), caramelly and has some malt notes. Flavour is a little "old". Sweet and fruity in the end with some alcaholwarmth. Overall well hidden alcahol. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Feb 25, 2008 (33cl bottle from a six-pack, bought in Bischberg, Franconia) Clear, mahogany colour with a massive beige foamy head. Molassy sweet and intense dark and toasted malt aroma with caramel, chocolate and dried fruits (prunes). Sweet flavour, full bodied with a soft and pleasant carbonation and a viscid mouthfeel. Rich and aromatic roasted malty taste with caramel, liquorice and lighter notes of chocolate; molassy sweet but not sticky strong malty finish with a whiff of herbal hops. The alcohol is very well hidden and never offensive. An aromatic, also a bit deceptive malt juice in the positive sense (25.02.08). Cornfield (4940), Oak Forest, Illinois, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jan 22, 2005 Updated: Jan 5, 2006This is the perfect drink for one of RateBeerian elders (i.e., an old guy) who just spent the last hour shoveling heavy snow during the height of the storm. - - - - - It begins with the bottle sparkling in my eyes... and no, I’m not snow blinded. They need a picture of this one here. It poured out a rich, deep mahogany with reddish highlights and a thin tan head. It’s got a light caramel aroma mixed with dark dried fruits. Not too sweet; just right. This is medium bodied and way too damned smooth. It’s full of rich malty, caramel tastes without getting as overbearing as some bocks do. It slides down very easily, leaving a sweet finish with a smattering of hop bitterness. You don’t really notice the 9.2% abv until it hits bottom and begins the warming process. I need WAY more of these.
