Thick cooked, caramalised nose, traces of vegemite, elegant. Palate shows excellent balance, notwithstanding the 9.2%. More raisened, caramel malts, hints of chocolate sweetness in the mid palate. Low fizz is very appropriate. Really quite impressive. fishingnet (1045), Brandon, Florida, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Apr 8, 2007 11.2oz bottle. Pours a clear dark brown with ruby highlights and a small tan head that leaves minimal lacing. Aroma is sweet caramel, dark fruit, molasses, and a touch of roasted malt. Taste is the same with a smooth creamy texture and mild bitterness. Alcohol is very well hidden and the beer is very well balanced. jb (1043), Rochester, New York, USA
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Dec 14, 2006 As usual, I am wowed by an Eisbock. I was impressed by the color and initial tan head on the pour - it disappated very quickly. The color is a very dark murky brown with very faint red/orange highlights. This has a highly alcoholic smell. Dark dried fruit, brown sugar, dough are also present in the aroma. The palate is super sweet yet balanced a bit by the alcohol. But the alcohol isn’t a negative or out of place. In the middle of the palate is a nice graham cracker taste that is in between the layers of sweetness. I love this, but then this is my favorite style of beer. MrBendo (1043), Swedesboro, New Jersey, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | May 8, 2007 Tap at Capone’s. Dark brown with ruby hi-lites. Taste of toffee, raisins, chocolate and cherries. A little heat, but very nice overall. Mostly sweet finish. Beautiful beer! pintsize (1042), Austin, Texas, USA

Thick brown in color with okay head. Smells like burning caramel and alcohol. Sweet alcohol malt flavor. Feels like much more than 9.2%. Just heavy and thick and too much booze but I liked the woodsy caramel tones in the flavor quite a bit. If it had a little less present alcohol - I would have enjoyed it much more.

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 15/20 | Dec 7, 2007 Marvelously dark and candied aroma of horehound, licorice, molasses, and even a fine cigar. Dark ruby brown with a thick brown head, good lacing. Medium to full bodied and moderately sweet. Horehound and currant flavor with much more of the former. Plum finish. The alcohol sneaks up on you without you knowing it, so pace yourself. Not a lot of balance, but an amazing niche beer. Outstanding representation of the style and probably a 5 for those who like this type of beer. ChillCoat (1029), Concord, California, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jun 19, 2007 Bottle. Pours a deep garnet color with an ivory wisp. Sweet malt aroma with toffee, caramel and some dark fruits. Big and sweet with sharp fruit flavors; dark fruits but also melons and some apricot. Rich chocolate and caramel flavors- man this would be tasty reduced down and poured over ice cream but to do so would be sacrilege. Thick and lingering aftertaste. Aroma is of dark fruits, chocolate, brown sugar, and almost no alcohol. Flavor is sweet up front with the brown sugar, chocolate, and dark fruits. Finishes dry with some alcohol warming. Pretty good.
