| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 2, 2005 330 ml bottle, from Bello Vino in Ann Arbor, MI (August 05). Largish, rich, bubbly tan head, slowly decaying, sitting atop a translucent garnet body, nearly black...huge, decadent, port wine-infused caramel in the nose, dark chocolate cake and raisins, hints of nuttiness....body is plummy, moderately sweet with some coffeeish burnt raspy character showing up immediately, and a big alcohol burn late...somewhat oily, slick palate, surprising in the bitterness though I’m not complaining, better than alternative syrupy character...a slow, slow sipper with just a bit too much boozy harshness, I suspect I’d like this more after a year or two. There is a light metallic edge and some sharp herbal character, like frisee or arugula almost or wild bitter flowers, that certainly makes for more complexity but not necessarily more pleasure or drinkability. More interesting than great. motelpogo (4399), Plzen, Czech Republic

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Sep 14, 2007 What seems to be a 12 oz. bottle. Aroma of very dark caramel malt. No dark fruit. Color is a clear, very dark brown; the beige head is very respectable. Medium to full bodied with creamy carbonation. The flavor is caramel, toffee, roasted malt. There is a component that reminds of the old Grapette soft drink - arguably Concord grape (presumably available at Walmart!). Fruity and malty. The finish is not excessively sweet, and the gritty roast malt aspect tends to balance the sweetness. Malt balancing malt? Anyway, the flavor is excellent, and the palate is pleasing. heemer77 (4312), Savannah, Missouri, USA

The aroma is very sweet with vanilla and butterscotch. The flavor is still somewhat sweet. Cherries, caramel and lots of malt character. Maybe it is just me, but this another beer that I just find too sweet at the start. This does get more well balanced as you get through the drink. tiggmtl (4311), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 3/5 | 9/10 | 3/5 | 19/20 | May 10, 2004 Burnt oak, rich, sweet and malty aroma. Dark brown, almost black with light tan head that recedes to ring. Initial short, sweet, burnt flavour followed by a huge malty sweetness, caramel, herbal, grassy hops, roasty malt. The aftertaste is quite the compex journey. Alcohol very apparent in the finish. Body is medium. Mouthfeel surprisingly simple. Enjoyed with MartinT and Rastacouere. Bottle. | 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Mar 9, 2004 Deep plum hue with frothy off-white head and outstanding lacing. The aroma hints of roasted caramel malts, toffee, molasses, figs, light smoke, and earthy yeast esters, no scent of alcohol to be found, nice. The taste starts with a pungent yet rich malty and fruit character. The taste is almost like overripe figs, currents and candy sugar, but is not coy. Undertones of mocha, sweet bread and a touch of noble bitterness rounds out the palate. The finish displays a mild smoky and earthy tone. This full-bodied beer has a soft, round and lush mouthfeel without becoming sticky. Just a lingering presence of alcohol to provide the expected warming. A world-class beer, dangerously drinkable. Highly recommended. A taste of my young adult experiances revisited. Skinnyviking (4193), Copenhagen, Denmark
