Commercial Description:
The ice bock, also known as "Bayrisch Gefrorns", owes its discovery to a coincidence. According to the chronicles of the Kulmbacher brewery, some time around 1900 an apprentice forgot on a cold winter day to carry two barrels of bock beer into the brewery cellar. The barrels stayed outside, were covered by ice and snow and weren’t discovered until the following spring. The barrels had burst and the apprentice was reprimanded. But the carelessness was a stroke of luck because under the thick ice coat, a bock beer extract remained, strong tasting and high in alcoholic content.
Even if the dark, tasty speciality is not produced in this spectacular way anymore, the chance that gave birth to this beer became a tradition. Today this beer rarity is brewed in a modern brewing and freezing process, but the incomparable taste is still the same and can always be enjoyed in winter months.

Bottled: Dark brown to black, immense tan head, aroma of rich burnt malt, bread, chocolate. Flavor of malt, rich burnt malt, subdued yet powerful, finish is sweet. Very nice beer.

Rich and robust, roasted malt, molasses aroma. Deep dark blackish read color. Small, light tan, large bubble head that is almost fully diminishing. High alcohol is very prevalent on the back of the tongue. This is a great brew! Smooth, with hints of chocolate, toffee and caramel. This gets easier to drink with each sip. The alcohol is well hidden; this could be dangerous. The only other Eisbock I have rated is the Schneider Aventinus Weizen-Eisbock, which I sampled at the Weisses Brauhaus in Munich. That one is higher in alcohol (11% vs. 9.2%) and tastes that much more dangerous. I believe I recall liking that brew better than this one, but they’re both very fine. Oh, and I love the label!

Oh yeah: Spicey, alcohol and malt nose. Dark brown with hints of red and a nice hazelnut brown head atop. Very malty and grainy. Bitter, thick, long aftertaste. Very good.

A Good Eisbock. Fruity(raisins, plum), malty, and sweet flavor. Finishes warming, clean, and smooth. Recommended.

Black appearance with a moderate head. The aroma explodes with chocolate, raisins, and caramel. The flavor is quite sweet with some milk chocolate, nuts, syrup, and grapes. I find this oddly refreshing for some reason. The alcohol is masked extremely well. The aftertaste is very sweet and thick. This one is a winner fo sho!

This is the most delicate, subtle and subdued eisbock I've ever had - nothing like the cloying, palate-assaulting beasts that so often go by the name - dark ruby with moderate, fizzy head that disappears almost completely - subdued, but complex aroma of candy sugar, plums, cloves - very mild sweetness in the flavor, with wonderfully subtle flavors of plums and other dark fruits - tingling carbonation - dates, figs, and a hint of black cherry - certain qualities remind me more of an abbey dubbel - dangerously well-masked alcohol - I wish more beers of this style were like this.

Looks darker than it taste; coca cola color; plum wine taste, taste like a barley wine, but definately a nice style, I would and could (and probably will) drink more.

Aroma is that of blackberries & cream; alcohol. Smooth as silk draped over a newborn babe. Vinous trace, not sticky. A ton of roasty, warm, buttery mocha brownies.
