Flavor of malt, rich burnt malt, subdued yet powerful, finish is sweet. Very nice beer. ElGaucho (1730), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | May 14, 2004 Rich and robust, roasted malt, molasses aroma. Deep dark blackish read color. Small, light tan, large bubble head that is almost fully diminishing. High alcohol is very prevalent on the back of the tongue. This is a great brew! Smooth, with hints of chocolate, toffee and caramel. This gets easier to drink with each sip. The alcohol is well hidden; this could be dangerous. The only other Eisbock I have rated is the Schneider Aventinus Weizen-Eisbock, which I sampled at the Weisses Brauhaus in Munich. That one is higher in alcohol (11% vs. 9.2%) and tastes that much more dangerous. I believe I recall liking that brew better than this one, but they’re both very fine. Oh, and I love the label! Dark brown with hints of red and a nice hazelnut brown head atop. Very malty and grainy. Bitter, thick, long aftertaste. Very good. beerslayer (753), New Jersey, USA

| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Aug 20, 2004 Black appearance with a moderate head. The aroma explodes with chocolate, raisins, and caramel. The flavor is quite sweet with some milk chocolate, nuts, syrup, and grapes. I find this oddly refreshing for some reason. The alcohol is masked extremely well. The aftertaste is very sweet and thick. This one is a winner fo sho! notalush (2686), Denver, Colorado, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Mar 13, 2004 This is the most delicate, subtle and subdued eisbock I've ever had - nothing like the cloying, palate-assaulting beasts that so often go by the name - dark ruby with moderate, fizzy head that disappears almost completely - subdued, but complex aroma of candy sugar, plums, cloves - very mild sweetness in the flavor, with wonderfully subtle flavors of plums and other dark fruits - tingling carbonation - dates, figs, and a hint of black cherry - certain qualities remind me more of an abbey dubbel - dangerously well-masked alcohol - I wish more beers of this style were like this. aobecksy (661), Middle of no where, Ohio, USA
