Commercial Description:
The ice bock, also known as "Bayrisch Gefrorns", owes its discovery to a coincidence. According to the chronicles of the Kulmbacher brewery, some time around 1900 an apprentice forgot on a cold winter day to carry two barrels of bock beer into the brewery cellar. The barrels stayed outside, were covered by ice and snow and weren’t discovered until the following spring. The barrels had burst and the apprentice was reprimanded. But the carelessness was a stroke of luck because under the thick ice coat, a bock beer extract remained, strong tasting and high in alcoholic content.
Even if the dark, tasty speciality is not produced in this spectacular way anymore, the chance that gave birth to this beer became a tradition. Today this beer rarity is brewed in a modern brewing and freezing process, but the incomparable taste is still the same and can always be enjoyed in winter months.

Murky thick dark brown color that pours with the smallest of head. Roasted malt aroma with dried fruits, mostly raisins. Taste is mostly roasted malt with some burnt caramel, brown sugar and dried fruits. Super smooth.

Dark brown. Malt aroma, sweet. Flavor is very sweet. No alcohol in the flavor. Carmel, malt, sugar, campfire. Not as good as Celebrator, but an excellent bock.

Bottle. This beer formed a large sized tan head with fine-small sized bubbles that quickly dissipated. The body was reddish-brown and somewhat opaque with no carbonation observed. The nose was malty, caramel and sweet with some alcohol notes. The flavor was sweet, malty, caramel and some alcohol. The mouthfeel was smooth and this beer had sparse lacing. A good Eisbock and one that I recommend.

6 months bottle. Big props to TAR Finely laced thin off-white head over a dark molasses brown hue. Deeply rich aroma, sweet as expected, but bearing woody and lots of smoked undertones. The great chocolatey malt is intertwined with the candyish toffee. Subdued hop profile complements the malt fest with dignity. In one word, the aroma is effective. A first sip reveals its awe-inspiring complexity. This is rich and decadent, smoky with superb chocolate flavors. Understated fruitiness, maple and mildly bitter tobacco finish. Medium to full bodied with appropriate carbonation, rather restrained not to disturb and to let the malt expands as it deserves to. Wonderful and extremely contemplative lager, not unlike celebrator.

Alcohol nose with muted notes of dark fruit and chocolate; slightly biscuity and bready, definite brown sugar sweet with chocolate hints and maybe some pistachio nuts; thick, but not nearly as malty as expected, not cloying; slick and eminently smooth; wonderful.

poured a deep mahogany big fluffy light tan head good lacing.aroma chocolate chips, raisins fruity (plum or cherries) malts. flavor chocolate, molasses, Plum, dry fruits and traverse city cherries, alcohol, bitter. finish was a little on the chalky side. as the beer warmed the chocolate flavor got stronger and more sweetness came thru.this is a beer that should be servered at room temp. the warmer it got the more I enjoyed it

Bottled. A very dark brown coloured beer with a minimal short-lived head. The aroma is thick and heavy on the alcohol. Sweet caramel and soy sauce tickle the nose. The taste is thick and warming. Woody and licquorice. Tons of malt and tons of alcohol, yet very smooth and very drinkable. This is sheer quality and even though you know it’s high strength and it tastes that way in the mouth, it really is quaffable and very moreish.

Bottle: Aroma has lots of buttery caramel. Pours a dark brown with orange hilights when held to the light. Tan head fades quickly. Real sweet. Lots of caramel, toffee, chocolate, and brown sugar. Light alcohol is barely noticeable in the finish but has a little warming affect. Definitely sweet but not nearly sweet as the other eisbocks I’ve had. The more I drink this the more I like it. Very good.
