For aroma, there’s a metallic twang (probably from the high ABV), which seems to cover up hints of roasted and caramel malts, and a tad of cedar that comes through. Taste is very rich, characterized by chocolate malts and a small backend of earthiness, walnuts and protruding prunes. Caramel malts play a dominant role in sweetening and balancing the beer. Very full-bodied. Quite possibly the richest beer in the bock genre that I’ve had the blessing of tasting. As it warms, the beer gets only better, smoother and more balanced. You can’t taste the heavy alcohol presence until you get a small hint of it near the end of the beer. That being said, you can feel the alcohol’s effect after sip number two. Fantastic beer. God bless Eisbocks. Bigsilky (322), Charleston, USA
| 4.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 10/10 | 5/5 | 19/20 | Apr 19, 2005 Pours a rich chocolate-mahoganey color right out of the bottle. Instantly a nose of dark raisins and butter-rummed bananas leap out. The brown sugar and dark fruit collid with a spicy clean hop (Hallertau?). All of these elements are balanced by the well hidden 9.2 %abv. On the finish a crisp smooth roast takes over, begging the drinker to have another sip. Obviously this is a favorite. It has served me well and since I just had a bottle last night I decided to rate it. Try this as a digestif after dinner of a dessert wine, it goes wonderfully with stilton and walnuts. Damn those talented Germans. It’s almost a shame what North American brewers have done to give Ice Beer the reputation that it has. georgekappus (296), Brookfield, Connecticut, USA

Has a caramel sweet aroma. The taste is malty with a slight smokiness along with hints of coffee and chocolate. Absolutely delicious. Skeegle (500), Maryland, USA

I would drink this beer before I went on a date with Carmen Electra. Unless she had a bottle of this. The nose is beautiful like a cherry pie covered in caramel, the mouthfeel is medium bodied with perfect carbonation and presence. Alcohol never presents itself even in warming times, and the finish leaves still images of dried overripe dark fruits all over the tongue. Amazing. guyinchicago (539), marengo, Illinois, USA

Pours a black color with a fluffy mostly white head that disappeared pretty quickly. forget the hops here, this is all syrup, malt, dried fruit, raisins, molasses. And that goes for the aroma and flavor. Sweet and smooth. What a sipper. Better as is warmed...man oh man I want more...more I say!! gringo332 (247), Richardson, Texas, USA

Very sweet and dark. lear, deep ruby-amber coloured, mid-sized, slowly diminishing tanned head; distinctive fruitiness dried fruits, raisins) in the caramelly and toasted-malty nose, accompanied by illusions of molasses and shy hops; solid sweet flavour, full bodied, a bit sticky; Frank (1076), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 19/20 | Oct 15, 2003 Deep, deep garnet red with a slightly purple tint in the right light. Large bubbles form a large head that diminishes rather quickly, leaving a nearly still surface with only a little island of fizz in the middle. Nose is powerful, readily apparent from two feet away. Up close, I smell loads of malt with notes of raisin, molasses, white sugar, and alcohol. Thick and slick on the tongue with a spark of carbonation on the back of the throat. Definitely, the sweetness of this beer is most striking initially but it's punctuated delicately with notes of dry fruit and cloves, alcohol warmth, and a pleasing bitter edge in the finish. Absolutely wonderful. A life affirming experience.
