I’ve had dopplebocks, and this is like an amped up version which I suppose is the point. Appearance is a deep ruby, almost black in certain light with a head that doesn’t linger too long. Taste is almost too sweet, but it stops short of being cloying. Strong malt balance with a dark fruit taste. Well balanced, easy to drink and hard to believe that its 9.2%. Quite an enjoyable beer. This is one impulse buy that I am not regretting. ChillCoat (1029), Concord, California, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jun 19, 2007 Bottle. Pours a deep garnet color with an ivory wisp. Sweet malt aroma with toffee, caramel and some dark fruits. Big and sweet with sharp fruit flavors; dark fruits but also melons and some apricot. Rich chocolate and caramel flavors- man this would be tasty reduced down and poured over ice cream but to do so would be sacrilege. Thick and lingering aftertaste. biz82 (1328), austin, Texas, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Mar 15, 2006 Thick, nearly flat pour. Clear reddish brown. Earthy caramel aroma with notes of toffee and coffee. Sweet, heavy fruit flavor of raisens and over ripe plums with caramel malt. Big silky body. No hop flavor to speak of but it has a low level of balancing bitterness. Better than any Dopplebock I’ve had, though I’ve had few Eisbocks to compare to. yayforbeer (647), Orange Park, Florida, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Dec 10, 2006 Updated: Aug 24, 2007Sampled at Broudys Holiday Beerfest,Jacksonville FL 12/2/2006. The shining star of the new beers sampled at this fest. Wonderfully rich in flavor and texture. Smooth as silk, and delicious. Good alcohol hit as well. I loved the flavor of this one, and will soon pick up a few more to enjoy and rate properly. .. .. rerate 8/24/2007 .. .. .. Finally, almost two years later I find another bottle to try. Its even worth the wait.. a delicious and kickass brew. Fruity malty aroma. Flavor is sweet but not cloying, then develops a subtle malt liquor character, and then dark fruit flavors explode on the tongue, and fade to a spicy, hoppy bitterness. Alcohol warmth is noticeable in the back of the throat. A delicious treat.. I loved it. Goldorak (439), Montreal, Quebec, Canada
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Nov 13, 2005 A bit darker than blood red, the head who was quite full at first but died off into a solid ring of lace was a very neutral grey, the kind they use for cubicles. It made a weird contrast but one that I liked.
Rich with plenty of alcohol vapors, prune juice, raisins, plums and dark chocolate, it was like a nice porto.
Low carbonation, it comes down silky smooth down your gullet, but the alcohol seems to just pop about half-way through your oesophagus and gives you a nice, warm feeling. Flavors of figs dipped in blackstrap molasses, I was able to detect a slight hoppy aftertaste, but the dark fruits and neutral hard liquor were predominant in the final. A great sipping Beer, perfect for winter! LilKem (1210), Marietta, Ohio, USA

The appearance is very dark ruby brown with medium light tan head. The flavors are of Reisins candys, chocolate, Lots of malts, and some nice darker fruits, some prunes, some apricot, some molasses. Way impressed for $2.19. Hot damn, don’t forget about the alcohol burn though. detroiter (958), Euphoria, Minnesota, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 19, 2007 Pours a dark brown with an inch of tan foam. Moderate head retention, some lacing - but not much. Too thick? Chocolate, caramel, and alcohol in the aroma.
Sweet chocolate flavors, with well-roasted grain, caramel, and even some moderately smoky undertones. No discernable hop presence. Nearly full-bodied, mild carbonation. rederic (1811), montréal, Quebec, Canada
