Commercial Description:
The ice bock, also known as "Bayrisch Gefrorns", owes its discovery to a coincidence. According to the chronicles of the Kulmbacher brewery, some time around 1900 an apprentice forgot on a cold winter day to carry two barrels of bock beer into the brewery cellar. The barrels stayed outside, were covered by ice and snow and weren’t discovered until the following spring. The barrels had burst and the apprentice was reprimanded. But the carelessness was a stroke of luck because under the thick ice coat, a bock beer extract remained, strong tasting and high in alcoholic content.
Even if the dark, tasty speciality is not produced in this spectacular way anymore, the chance that gave birth to this beer became a tradition. Today this beer rarity is brewed in a modern brewing and freezing process, but the incomparable taste is still the same and can always be enjoyed in winter months.

Bottle: A slightly sweet malty aroma not over powering. It poured a clean, clear medium brown wth a minimal head. The taste was superior, good malt character, but not overpowering not too sweet with a smooth finish. It’s a good thing I didn’t buy more or they may have all been gone in one sitting. "I’’ll be bock..."

nice malted/sweet aroma noted with very dry hint of alcohol, poured a very very dark brown with contrasting light head, wonderful fully carbonated taste with deep flavors of molasses with nice balance of sweetness and alcohol close to a barley wine flavor but very mild, palate with lasting sweetness with a little roasted nut lingering, wonderful drink.

Nose of dried fruits, roast, chocolate and slight smoke. The mouthfeel is faintly slick but thick, a slight warming but well blended for a beer of this strength. Dark chocolate, cherries, raisins, figs, molasses, cloves, bannana, toffee, caramel. It is all in there. Finish is warm but rather dry.

12oz bottle aged one year. Dark brown pour with a big tan head. Malty sweet and nutty notes in the aroma. Sweet flavor with vanilla, nuts and some roastiness. Pretty good.

05.03.2004, 0,33l Bottle. The colour is black. Rich beer with a nice malty aroma. Very nice bitterness combined with the strong alcohol level. This beer tastes a lot and I really likes it!
