Commercial Description:
The ice bock, also known as "Bayrisch Gefrorns", owes its discovery to a coincidence. According to the chronicles of the Kulmbacher brewery, some time around 1900 an apprentice forgot on a cold winter day to carry two barrels of bock beer into the brewery cellar. The barrels stayed outside, were covered by ice and snow and weren’t discovered until the following spring. The barrels had burst and the apprentice was reprimanded. But the carelessness was a stroke of luck because under the thick ice coat, a bock beer extract remained, strong tasting and high in alcoholic content.
Even if the dark, tasty speciality is not produced in this spectacular way anymore, the chance that gave birth to this beer became a tradition. Today this beer rarity is brewed in a modern brewing and freezing process, but the incomparable taste is still the same and can always be enjoyed in winter months.

Deep ruby in the glass. Cotton candy, malt, dark cherry nose. Appealing hop bitterness at first, then sugar with an appropriate alcohol burn. Plums throughout. Creamy body, soft mouthfeel.

Bottle, 9.2%. Very malty aroma, hint of yeast. Dark brown colour with a nice red shine, small unstable light brown head. The flavour is very malty and quite nice with good, warming alcohol notes and nice burnt caramel. Mouthfeel is creamy. Aftertaste of aroma hops and bonbon.

Bottle, thanks Hogtown Harry. Dark ruby red, little head. Nice malty, nutty, sweet alcohol aroma. Great taste - rich, malt, light hops, intense sweetness. Complex, thick body. Great sipper - Rudy, did you really order a pitcher of this for us on the last round in Buffalo a few weeks back? Yikes...

Bottle - Dark brown body with ruby glints and an average beith bubbly head. Nice and complex malty/hoppy aroma with hints of roasted cereals, chocolate, vanilla, plum and brown sugar. Alcohol is very well hidden. Taste shows a good balance. It carries sweet, fruity, toffeeish and roasty notes. Ends with a long, sweet and warming finish. Wonderful Eisbock!

Dark brown colored with red hints. Little light brown head. Rich nutty and chocolaty aroma, mild alcohol and this caramelly sweetness here. As served ice-cold,this already has excellently rich aroma. Medium to full bodied. Flavor starts also with this rich mix of chocolate-nuts-toffee-caramel, this is one fine flavor! Crispy palate. Ending is still sweet with this vanishing alcohol and nuts. Slight bitter hops in aftertaste, very complex beer. Rather strong start for hot day in Bamberg.

Poured a nice dark reddish-brown...small brownish head. Nose is rich with sweet toasty malt. Flavor is more sweet malts, caramels, sugary-choco maltiness, molasses and a nice alcohol edge. Full-bodied and yummy. Great beer.

Pours dark reddish brown, tan head. Aroma is dark fruit, raisiny. Flavor sweet, not overpowering, caramel, toffee, brown sugar, more dark fruit and a slight nuttiness. There is a slight alcohol burn at the very end, but not severe. Very smooth for the alcohol level. Nice!!
