Heavy dark fruit aroma, slight raisin and fig notes. Heavy raisiny flavor, dark fruits, very figgy, yummy! Big body with a fairly moderate mouthfeel. I thought it would have been a bit thicker. Finishes a bit heavier at least, lots of dark bready character, figs, dates, and very pruny. Alcohol is well hidden. Very enjoyable, but could be a bit sweeter and viscous in my opinion.

Sweet malty aroma with hints of alcohol and metallics. Flavour is very very sweet with lots of dark maltiness, and chocolatey brown sugar. Warming alcoholic finish is pleasant, nice syrupy body is not exactly thick but has noticable weight across the tongue. I like it. Thanks to IPfreely for bringing this one up for me. zach8270 (2131), Henrietta, New York, USA

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Oct 17, 2004 Bottomless and nocturnal. Gooey head for a lager that quickly dies and dissipates. Dusty aroma. Pronounced salty malt. Pounds upon pounds of thick german malts combine to cover not only the alcohol but my nose as well. Anise, iron (not oxidized), Very smooth aroma, complex yet overpoweringly sticky. Not subtle. Flavors reflect this. Distinct saltiness coupled with hints of plastic and rust. If this weren’t a doppel I’d swear it was oxidized beyone belief. However that just must be the gallons of lager yeast and dark malts that lurk in this beauty.Warming alcohol but not too much. Huge and sticky. It is alright but I’ll take the Aventinus eis anyother day thank you very much.

Taste of raisins, dark sugars, dark fruits. Lots of malt. Very good eisbock, even though I’d like a touch more of hops here. Beaver (599), Fort Collins, Colorado, USA

The aroma is sweet candy-like caramel malts, chocolate, dark fruits and some alcohol.
The flavor is sweet sugary caramel malts, dark fruits, and some smoke, with some alcohol warming. A bit of a bitter finish comes out as it warms. The mouthfeel is medium to full with low carbonation.
Overall, it tastes like an extra-sweet doppelbock. It is very well done and tasty. Dough77 (777), Aurora, Illinois, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Nov 6, 2007 Delicous. Aroma was a bit off like old dark fruits. But from its look and small off white flat head to the smooth and tasty flavors its all in all a fantastic brew. Thick bready plum sugar and roasted malt.
