Commercial Description:
The ice bock, also known as "Bayrisch Gefrorns", owes its discovery to a coincidence. According to the chronicles of the Kulmbacher brewery, some time around 1900 an apprentice forgot on a cold winter day to carry two barrels of bock beer into the brewery cellar. The barrels stayed outside, were covered by ice and snow and weren’t discovered until the following spring. The barrels had burst and the apprentice was reprimanded. But the carelessness was a stroke of luck because under the thick ice coat, a bock beer extract remained, strong tasting and high in alcoholic content.
Even if the dark, tasty speciality is not produced in this spectacular way anymore, the chance that gave birth to this beer became a tradition. Today this beer rarity is brewed in a modern brewing and freezing process, but the incomparable taste is still the same and can always be enjoyed in winter months.

Rich and deep roasted caramel toffee nose, some hints of dark chocolate. Coffee brown with red hues, huge foamy head that settled into a dense pillow. Intensely malty syrupy sweet, noticeable but mellow bitterness, warming alcohol. Soft carbonation, rich full body with an oily mouth feel, long slow complex alcohol burning finish. A really nice beer, the alcohol completely balances the sweetness.

Source:12 oz bottle from a sixer purchased at Frugal MacDoogal’s in Nashville.
Glass:Fuller’s snifter.
Appearance:Deep mahogany pour with a one finger beige head that lingered.
Aroma:Sweet malts, caramel, chocolate, red wine, alcohol and oak. A hint of sour cherries.
Flavor:Sweet malt, red wine, toffee, chocolate and cherries. Flavor was not as pronounced as the aroma.
Palate:Medium body with mild carbonation.
Overall:This lived up to the hype. Thought the aroma was awesome, the flavor was very good, not great. Glad I have more.

Draft - beautiful deep ruby color with a nice tan head. Fruity aroma. Flavor was also of dark fruits, yet malty. Sweet, but not overly. A very nice beer

Smells and looks like a stout. Tastes sweet with a wine aftertaste. taste of plums and raisons. Good beer. Thin compared to a stout and no hops compared to an IPA. First Eisbach rated. Bottle from artusory.

Dark brown purplish pour with garnet highlights and thin light tan head. Nose of raisin and anise, some plum, and huge amounts of sweet dark malt, but absent is alcohol. Flavors are earthy, rum soaked fruit, black cherry, peat, leather. There is a pleasant warming sensation but not much alcohol flavor. Body is medium chewy with high carbonation. Very tasty and very alcoholic, a winning combo in my book...

Quite the surprise but I guess it shouldn’t have been. A dark pour, with not such a big head. Smells like a fruit roast if that makes sense. A very full body with a nice long finish. Had it in bottle poured to stein.

(GERMAN) The color is a dark brown almost black with a fizzy sm-white head. The aroma is a combo of molasses, caramel and prunes. The taste is of dark fruits, alcohol, and licorice. And the mouthfeel is extremely smooth and creamy !!! This was a pleasant suprise and i would drink it again.
