Nose is very alcoholic, with a sweetness. Aromas of raisins, apricots, prunes, resin, toffee, slight coffee, chocolate, port, and burnt sugar. Rich, full and chocolately in the mouth. Sugary and sweet, with the alcohol burn as a finisher. Plums and port, chocolate and pine. Fantastic lingering mouthfeel of sweet burnt sugar, breadiness, licorice, and a cloying syrupy flavor. And to boot, a nice piney, hop bitter finish. I still remember the first one I ever had. Still just as delicious. Right on! shendrix (478), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Feb 4, 2008 A tad sweet for a daily drinker, but a damned fine beer. The aroma is a smoky brown-sugar malt. Thick on the tongue, tasting of smoke, malt, and molasses all mingled together with smoke and a beautiful alcohol warmth. An excellent and complex brew. Well, actually we had several of these, which lit us up like a 3 alarm fire. This stuff is super dark, almost black. It has a very belgian-esque aroma. Taste is smooth as silk: Toffee, fruit, caramel and nice roasty malts. Reminded me of a Quad, as a matter of fact. I bought a six pack of this stuff at Holingshead several weeks ago and I wish I would have bought several cases, because now it’s gone, and I haven’t a clue where to find it in San Diego. For shame. starfireming (309), Richmond, Virginia, USA

| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 3/5 | 18/20 | Sep 8, 2006 Dark brown in color. Rich malt aroma from the pour. Smells of caramel and toffee. Wonderful almond colored head. Wow. What rich flavor and texture. Lots of figs, dates, plums, raisin. Finish of some chocolate. Alcohol is not that present until it hit the bottom of my stomach. This is an amazing beer, and my first German eisbock. Stefano (1344), Esbjerg, Denmark

On the palate, the flavors are harmoniously accompanied by toffee, macadamia nut brittle, juniper berries, and Pedro Ximenez sherry. Very fine beer. | 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Sep 8, 2007 I grabbed this one just by visually shopping at my new favorite store here in Albuquerque (I have since moved). When the "beer guy" at the shop told me it was a lot like Celebrator and that I could even do a side by side tasting, my immediate thought was something along the lines of: "Brother. You are really putting your reputation on the line here." It was my first suggestion from him and anyone in the store for that matter. I took his advice though and took a bottle of Celebrrator to do a side by side tasting. The two are virtually twins I feel, with minimal characteristic differences. The Celebrator has a more roasted quality and the Kulmbacher has a sweeter edge...and also 2.5% more on the ABV. Overall I appreciated this one quite a bit and was surprised how similar it was to Celebrator.
