| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Dec 18, 2009 Bottle. Aroma of alcohol, malt, and grain. It poured a deep brown color with foam that vanished after about 3 minutes. The taste was top notch; the 9.2% alcohol is hidden exceptionally well and I tasted notes of caramel, bread, and cereal. Smooth and slippery on the way down. All in all, this is a great eisbock at a bargain price! Scoop up a bottle and enjoy. Cheers! Travlr (769), Washington, Washington DC, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Dec 18, 2009 Maroon color, see-through, with a tiny bubble head that sticks to the edges.
No lacing to speak of.
Aroma of maple syrup and nutmeg.
Sweet maltiness, somewhat on the syrupy side.
Medium body, average I suppose for the style.
Nice enough if you like the style, not really my taste. mansquito (838), Boston/Philadelphia, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Dec 16, 2009 Decided to buy this beer because of a rather healthy alcohol to cost ratio. Wasn’t the best idea, but I am glad I tried this monster of a beer. Anyway, pours with very little head... goes away very soon and leaves no lacing. Pours a rather impenetrable brown colour. Aroma of licorice and beef jerky... seriously. The taste of the beer is overpowering. Extremely sweet. Lots of licorice. Sends tingles through your body with even the smallest sip. Fruity, with the ever so slight amount of hop bitterness. A little bit too much for me. This is the kind of beer that should only be drank when you are ready for it and want exactly the taste it will give you, otherwise I wouldn’t really suggest this monster to most. | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 11, 2009 THOUGHTS: I love finding these rare eisbocks, There was nothing too special about this one, but it was very nice. One of the good lagers.
TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a clear, dark mahogany with a small, off-white head that mostly diminished and left fair lacing. The aroma was heavy grain, cereal and caramel malts; light hops; toffee, light butterscotch and alcohol. The initial flavor was rather sweet; while the finish was sweet, light to moderately bitter and an average to long duration. There was caramel, grain, malt, malt and more malt, slight hops, toffee, molasses and alcohol. The medium to full body was fairly syrupy and a little oily with fizzy carbonation and a lightly alcoholic, slightly metallic and slightly dry finish. davisnmn (15), Connecticut, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 5/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Dec 10, 2009 The aroma Is earthy with rich malt undertones reminiscent of fresh beer being brewed in the kettle. The flavor is on the sweater side which lends itself nicely to the thicker mouth feel of the beer and I also found the beer that the beer has a nice alcohol finish.
In my opinion the Kulmbacher Eisbock is darker in color, lighter in flavor but still very Comparable to Samichlaus.

Aroma: Sweet nose consisting mostly of caramel, toffee, and dark fruits with some dough and earth
Appearance: Clearish brown color with a slight red hue with a dense, quickly dissipating tan head
Flavor: Taste is relatively sweet with a big malty flavor, similar to the nose, some alcohol in the end palate
Palate: Full bodied and rich, this beer has a nice mouthfeel and a mild alcohol burn
Overall Impression:
My first Eisbock rating! This is a darn tasty beer. I really liked this one quite a bit. I have to admit I didn’t really know much about this style, but I like it. A really nice beer for sure with a pretty cool (no pun intended) back-story.
