crowderm (275), Recklinghausen, Germany Nov 6, 2009 Hazy golden brown pour with a creamy white head that shrinks, but never disappears. The aroma is very mild. Toast, jam, caramel maybe. Not a lot there really. The flavor is surprisingly nice. Bready, sweet, vanilla, chestnuts, burnt toast. For me the hops really come through in a way that I guess they didn’t for others. Lots of green grass and a surprising hint of citrus work really nicely with the malt sweetness. There also seems to be a little sour apple in there somewhere. A very enjoyable brew, and unlike anything I’ve really tasted before. joeyplush (328), Garnet Valley, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 30, 2009 Dark coffee malt and some banana in the aroma, honey malt sweetness flavor. Cloudy orange brown color with a thin white head. Not spectacular Davros (201), Australia Oct 23, 2009 Pours clearer than I expected, pale copper in hue, with an admirably-sized persistent head leaving some lacing.
Aroma is mostly German malt: biscuity, bready and slightly toasty notes. Not much else, quite clean. Little in the way of hops, just a slight grassy noble note.
Flavours are similarly malt dominated: sweet bready notes with a light bitterness showing later.
Moderately high carbonation with a light body - nice.
My first beer of this style. Nice, but I would have liked higher hop presence. Allen (1285), Switzerland Oct 17, 2009 Bottled 50cl. Courtesy of joss. It pours a hazy nut brown beer with a small off-white head. Inviting aroma of burnt caramel, chicken wings, marshmallow, oak, raisin, brown sugar, mince pies, hazelnut and tarragon. Malt accentuated. Sweet taste with a lot of caramel, brown sugar, chestnut, vanilla and tarragon showing up. Medium bodied. Good malt profile. Low carbonation and bitterness. Some lacework. More caramel showing up on the swallow leading to a malty, faintly salty finish which is reminiscent of walnut and hazelnut. (Some residual sugars). A really smooth, sweet nutty interpretation of a Zwickel. Deeply pleasant. Thanks a lot joss! wxman (582), O’Fallon, Illinois, USA Oct 17, 2009 Pours a slightly hazy amber color with a big thick small-bead off-white head. Has a nutty and dark syrup aroma with some bready notes. Taste is initially a sharp, somewhat tart, roasted malt and citrusy hop. Eventually there is toasted bread and mild unsweeted cocoa and some hop bitterness. Pretty damn good, but not especially well balanced. Maddog (231), Kettering, Ohio, USA Oct 8, 2009 Another style of beer that I have never had. This Keller beer is reddish amber and certainly unfiltered. The aroma is bready and yeasty. A lager that isn’t messed with to clean it up. Malty in flavor with light yeast undertones, this German lager would be more enjoyable if I was drinking it in Germany. No shit right? This beer is excessively mild, thin and tame, but it sure beats any AB product. I want so much to enjoy German non-wheats more, but I find that they are just too soft for my liking. SSSteve (2045), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Sep 18, 2009 a hazy copper under a small white head. malty aroma with cardboard, brown sugar. flavor has a twist of hops added to the malty base(caramel, molasses, brown sugar). maupie (593), Roosendaal, Netherlands Sep 15, 2009 After the beer was served in the glass there was found a lasting quantity not wall adhesive white foam collar which was fine and evenly of structure. The beer also contained much carbonic acid in the glass.
The beer has a thick amber color and a light hoppy bitter taste. The after tast of the beer is light hoppy bitter with a malty touch. This beer smells malty.
