Commercial Description:
The naturally-cloudy Mönchshof Kellar beer is the result of Mönchshof's centuries-long brewing tradition and of the love of traditional beer brewing. This amber color, mild beer appeals to lovers of unfiltered beer, the way it used to be. A tradional Mönchshof beer specialty.

Pours a slightly hazy amber color with a big thick small-bead off-white head. Has a nutty and dark syrup aroma with some bready notes. Taste is initially a sharp, somewhat tart, roasted malt and citrusy hop. Eventually there is toasted bread and mild unsweeted cocoa and some hop bitterness. Pretty damn good, but not especially well balanced.

Another style of beer that I have never had. This Keller beer is reddish amber and certainly unfiltered. The aroma is bready and yeasty. A lager that isn’t messed with to clean it up. Malty in flavor with light yeast undertones, this German lager would be more enjoyable if I was drinking it in Germany. No shit right? This beer is excessively mild, thin and tame, but it sure beats any AB product. I want so much to enjoy German non-wheats more, but I find that they are just too soft for my liking.

After the beer was served in the glass there was found a lasting quantity not wall adhesive white foam collar which was fine and evenly of structure. The beer also contained much carbonic acid in the glass. The beer has a thick amber color and a light hoppy bitter taste. The after tast of the beer is light hoppy bitter with a malty touch. This beer smells malty.

Very pleasant soft easy goingbeer. Light malt touch drives the flavour and shows traces of caramel and milk chocolate. I didn’t pick up hop action although I understand there should be some given the style. Thins out a touch at the finish as it gets a little bitter and minerally. Really easy to drink this all day.

Bottle brown, 500 ml.
Appearance: Pours orangy amber, cloudy and moderately and naturally saturated body. Head is initially quite big, slowly decreasing to medium, slightly off-white ad cappuccino like, frothy in texture, quite stable, leaving nice lacing.
Aroma: Typical aroma of a Kellerbier, the mixture of spicy and herbal hops, notes of cardboard, papper, chalk, juicy malt, refreshing with a domination of hoppy profile, however, still a lot of yeast can be found there, lime, clementine, typical aroma for a kellerbier, gentle notes of caramell and cane sugar, leavy.
Flavour: Cane sugar, slightly spicy, notes of milk, slightly bitter, slightly salty, sme roastyness and bitterness. Finish duration is moderate with notes of orange.
Palate: Body is medium, texture is dry, carbonation on palate is moderate, finish feel is herbal, moderately astringent.

Coppor liquid, very thin layer of head. Average. Smells..lagery. I hate to say it, but when it comes to kellers/dortmunders/vienna, outside of light malt presence, I can’t pick out as much as I could for say, a pale ale. Light lemon? Breadiness perhaps? Either way, it is good for the style. Taste is surpringly complex, there’s a light fruit hop and apple presence at first rounded out by a malt finish and a little lingering smokiness. Palate is thick and smooth, lower in carbonation that I would like, giving a chunky feel.

Bottle bought in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Looks like a beer should, smells like a beer should, good head, but strange taste. A nice, old fashioned ale, but with a weird and bitter finish. Can’t figure that aftertaste - seems familiar, but can’t put my finger on it. Sort of nasty.
