Commercial Description:
The naturally-cloudy Mönchshof Kellar beer is the result of Mönchshof's centuries-long brewing tradition and of the love of traditional beer brewing. This amber color, mild beer appeals to lovers of unfiltered beer, the way it used to be. A tradional Mönchshof beer specialty.

STBF07. Toffee malt, harsh bittering hops, biscuity and caramel, peppery rocket at times, dry finish, good lager.

20070604 .5l swingtop Copper amber colored brew is much darker than I expected - quite a surprise. Mostly clear, although there was some sediment in the bottle that didn’t seem to dislodge with the pour. Medium beige head of loose and quickly fading foam plus a fair amount of visible streaming eff. Aroma reminds me of beer soaked whole grain bread. I’m not sure whether or not that’s good. The flavor is a bit oxidized, mild earthy hops, wet wood. Meh, this one didn’t travel well. Sweet, not hoppy, not much of anything. I guess I’ll have to go to Kulmbach to gie it a fair shake.

Rated 8/11/06: 1st Kellerbier I’ve tried. Pours a murky river water brown with a decent off white head, golden color around the edge of the glass. I was not expecting a lager to be this dark so this was indeed a nice surprise. Aroma is faint and a little funky. There is a bland breadiness quality mixed in with some grassy aroma. Mouthfeel is decent watery yet crisp I can’t complain. The flavor is decent, slightly sweet with the bread quality rounded out by some light malts. Drinkable but not very exciting it’s a decent brew.

Bottle: Hazy dark orange, offwhite head, aroma has rich chocolate wood with some earthy hops, creamy texture with mellow carbonation, starts and ends lightly sweet, with a light watery ending.

Cold 16.9oz Swing Top Bottle: Pours a cloudy medium orange color with a big, fluffy cream colored head. Aroma is of nice yeast, light grains, robust fruits and honey. Taste is of light grains, bread, grass, fruit and honey notes. Light to medium bodied and smooth with ample carbonation. Ending is of bread and honey notes.

Let ufiltreret gylden øl. Smagen er en blanding mellem en bock og wiener (classic) Samgen er humlet som en pilsner, men lidt stærkere som en bock - og en anelse sødligere. Duften er som pilsner.
