Commercial Description:
The naturally-cloudy Mönchshof Kellar beer is the result of Mönchshof's centuries-long brewing tradition and of the love of traditional beer brewing. This amber color, mild beer appeals to lovers of unfiltered beer, the way it used to be. A tradional Mönchshof beer specialty.

500 ml bottle from Sam’s Wines in Chicago. My first Kellerbier completes my list of beer styles here at RB. Hazy orange amber colour with a mostly diminishing creamy off-white head. Toasted cereal, caramel, bread, flaral, and orange citrusy malt aroma. Caramel, toasted cereal, and blodd orange flavours with a lightly yeasty bitter finish. Light to medium bodied, soft mouthfeel, incredibly drinkable. I need a trip to Franconia to get more of these in their native habitat.

Burnt straw body with moderate carbonation and a clean white head. Pale malt and honey tones in the aroma plus notes of warm biscuits, grass, and lager yeast. Medium sweet honey and apple flavors with low bitterness. Some subtle toasted malts make an appearance as well. Palate is a bit watery and syrupy. Fair and drinkable, but nothing special here. I was hoping for something better.

16.9 oz bottle-pours a foamy offwhite head with amber color. Aroma is wheat, musty, medium malt-slight caramel. Taste is musty, medium hops-bitterness, medium malt-slight caramel. Nicely balanced. OK effervescence.

Swing-top bottle: dark amber colour, slightly cloudy with a little cream head; fizzes in the mouth releasing a complex melange of flavours, with some stewed fruit, malt and biscuit, leaving a dry aftertaste. Definitely moreish.

Label has Kellerbrau. But, that beer shows as an Austrian beer. Brown and hazym with a malty, corn aroma. Sweet and malty.

Bottle at the Bavarian Beer Cafe, York St, Sydney: I’m not really sure I know how to rate this type of beer. Highlandlad had described it too me as hard to pin down, and he certainly wasn’t wrong. Cool bottle, and as it emerges it looks inviting; hazy brown amber with a thick creamy head. But this is where things start to get tricky. Like some sort of optical illusion, the aromas of this seemed to come to mind only to slip away again, leaving you doubting your original ideas. My notes say milk chocolate nutiness, but that has connotations of a stout, which this certainly is not. From there I found some herbal , floral, and lemony hop notes way down. But again, this conjures up notions of Bitters and Golen Ales - again not what I am trying to describe. Hmmm... Onto the flavours. In a word, moreish. At the same time citric, malty, and nutty (hazlenuts) and with a very long palate. This clutches at staws a bit but I am reminded of a cellar full of meats, nuts, dried fruits, and so on. Corny, but it seems appropriate.
Sampled with highlandlad.

Small coarse offwhite head shrinks quickly. Hazy orange body with ongoing carbonation. Spicy cinnamon aroma with notes of flour, sweetness, and rubber. Taste is sweet, spicy cinnamon with a dry cinnamon aftertaste and some hop notes. Some alcohol head. Good, firm body. Taste is quite powerful. Good! Drinkable and interesting. (0.5l bottle.)

This flippy top bottled brew marked 1536366 from a bottle shop in Indianapolis poured a medium sized head of foamy off-white colored bubbles that were thick and left behind a hazy very softly carbonated brown colored body and a fair lacing. The mild aroma was malty with brown malt and dough notes. The mouth feel was mildly tingly at the start and at the finish. The mild thin flavor contained notes of brown malt. An OK brew just nothing special. Needs more character and flavor.
