Looks like a beer should, smells like a beer should, good head, but strange taste. A nice, old fashioned ale, but with a weird and bitter finish. Can’t figure that aftertaste - seems familiar, but can’t put my finger on it. Sort of nasty. charlotte (2036), Vanløse, Denmark

| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Aug 7, 2009 Creamy tan color, slightly opaque, small white head. Nose of heavy caramel, some earth and straw, also some minor lemon. Caramel flavor, earthy and plain. Rather wet/oily, but the earth keeps it from being very refreshing or juicy. Pretty pleasant, but an odd combination that doesn’t really get anywhere. ratman197 (3262), Arvada, Colorado, USA

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Jul 23, 2009 500ml swing-top bottle served in a shaker. Dark golden brown pour with a light haze and a thick head of rocky, off-white foam that left some thick lacing. The aroma had hay, toasted grain, and a light herbal/earthy hoppiness. Smells rustic. The flavor had light toast, hay, and aged hops. Malty but fairly clean...just a hint of herbal bitterness at the finish. The mouthfeel was medium-bodied and had soft carbonation. Drinkable and pretty tasty. A nice surprise. ketchepillar (489), Des Moines/Grinnell, Iowa, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jul 22, 2009 Shakeyfest 09. Bottle that was probably a bit too old. Bottle from Germany. Rather grainy. Definitely tastes old. Rather "lagery" if I do say so myself. Needs fresh re-rate.
