Commercial Description:
The naturally-cloudy Mönchshof Kellar beer is the result of Mönchshof's centuries-long brewing tradition and of the love of traditional beer brewing. This amber color, mild beer appeals to lovers of unfiltered beer, the way it used to be. A tradional Mönchshof beer specialty.

Bottle bought in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Looks like a beer should, smells like a beer should, good head, but strange taste. A nice, old fashioned ale, but with a weird and bitter finish. Can’t figure that aftertaste - seems familiar, but can’t put my finger on it. Sort of nasty.

Pours hazy brown with a dense medium sized excellent lacing head. Nutty caramell with roasted notes in aroma. Flavor is caramell with long lingering bitterness. Medium body.

Swingtop bottle. Pours light amber/copper with a foamy white head. Spent grain, caramel. light pear and grassiness in the nose. Flavor has notes of kilned malty toastiness, herbal/grassy noble hops, earth and old grain. Mild bitterness, finish ends a bit sweet. Medium bodied with a soft texture and moderate carbonation.

Creamy tan color, slightly opaque, small white head. Nose of heavy caramel, some earth and straw, also some minor lemon. Caramel flavor, earthy and plain. Rather wet/oily, but the earth keeps it from being very refreshing or juicy. Pretty pleasant, but an odd combination that doesn’t really get anywhere.

500 ml swing top bottle poured a hazy tarnished copper with a lasting ivory head. Aromas of earthiness, carmel, fruittiness and light molasses. Palate was light to medium bodied and smooth. Flavors of earthiness, carmel, light fruittiness and a hint of brown sugar with a smooth earthy finish.

500ml swing-top bottle served in a shaker. Dark golden brown pour with a light haze and a thick head of rocky, off-white foam that left some thick lacing. The aroma had hay, toasted grain, and a light herbal/earthy hoppiness. Smells rustic. The flavor had light toast, hay, and aged hops. Malty but fairly clean...just a hint of herbal bitterness at the finish. The mouthfeel was medium-bodied and had soft carbonation. Drinkable and pretty tasty. A nice surprise.

Shakeyfest 09. Bottle that was probably a bit too old. Bottle from Germany. Rather grainy. Definitely tastes old. Rather "lagery" if I do say so myself. Needs fresh re-rate.
